Awesome. Thanks for the answer. I wish my dealer knew that what you explained to me. It just sucks and is annoying that delaers know nothing about the process or the vehicle's specs etc.

My understanding is that it is a little bit of both. When you “place an order” it isn’t with the factory, but with the dealer. Dealers all get a certain allocation of “special orders” in addition to whatever the factory sends (and those special orders are across the entire Kia lineup, so it’s not X Tellurides a month, it is X vehicles a month). The dealer can put in as many orders as they want, but only X get picked up by the factory each month. The factory chooses, probably based on what color/trim is running across the line and based on dealer volume, what orders to process from which dealers. So, it’s a bit of a crap shoot on when your order will be picked up. For me, I ordered June 22nd, and my order still hasn’t been picked up by the factory. Others who ordered around the same timeframe are taking delivery.

Not sure, but if I had to guess your being in line means they put the order into their system, but will also let you know if one shows up on a truck before then.

Not true. Dealer allocation would not have the custom accessories that most of you want or do not want on these vehicles. If we waited for the right vehicle with the right options we would never see them.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm talking about how the orders get picked up by Kia. They will only fulfill a certain number of orders each cycle for each dealership. So a dealer with a higher allocation will get more orders fulfilled than one with a lower allocation, regardless of how many orders each has pending or when those orders were placed. Also, higher production trims/option groups will get fulfilled faster than lower production trims/option groups, again regardless of when the orders were placed. They do not take orders chronologically from all dealerships and fulfill them. Just look at the varying timelines reported on here and it's pretty obvious.

Where do you go when your dealer is non responsive? I ordered an SXP Moss/Black, towing, side boards on 4/19 with a deposit. I see similar vehicles being delivered on here with later order dates. When I call and get a response it is 'nothing yet' or 'We will let you know when we get a VIN'. I understand a delay on a new model but would think more than 4 months in I would have a more defined answer or something.

This could be a problem - but side boards weren't in stock for a while, so that may have delayed order. That's my best guess. You'll just have to keep pressing for answers. If it's not delivered by September, you may want to go to a different dealership and start again. Maybe they didn't order in time, maybe they are being punished for placing fake orders (all other orders get pushed back) or maybe they are trying to sell the car you ordered for more than what you agreed to pay.

I finally have a VIN, window sticker looks as expected. SXP Black Copper on Brown Nappa with tow package. Ordered May 4th, expected delivery August 31st. Going to surprise the wife who is just about to give birth in the next few weeks.

Orders for S models typically come in faster, but at least your dealer set your expectations on the higher end. Kia is cranking out those S models... very popular trim level.

I ordered my Ebony/Dune SXP on July 27th and my dealer told me that it would most likely be October - November. I think a lot may depend. on what color combos they're running through assembly. Adding a lot of options, may cause it to take a little longer as well. I limited mine to self-leveling rear suspension-tow hook and mud flaps. Hoping to have it in time for the holidays

Here's another data point/timeline for S trims:

July 25 - We ordered a FWD Black/Black S with 8-passenger package
August 5 - Order accepted
August 19 - Received VIN
September 3-6 - Estimated arrival

Will be about 6 weeks from order to delivery, which seems very quick compared to the others on this thread (and this for a dealership that is not high volume). Like jw_tx21 observed, I am guessing it is because we ordered the very popular S trim in a popular color.

I began my ordering process for my Dark Moss/Dune SX w/Prestige Package back in early April after test driving an EX, however, at the time they informed me that Kia was not accepting orders at all for any trim levels. I then received a call in May stating that they had begun accepting orders and I could come put a deposit on one. I did so and about 2 days later was informed that I would be getting my deposit back due to the orders not being open for SX with Prestige Package. I was told ordering wouldn’t likely open until September 2019.

I then received notification on 7/23/19 that orders would be opening on 7/25/19 at 12pm central time for SX with Prestige Package models. My order was placed and accepted on 7/25/19 and I was told it would likely take 8-10 weeks before delivery. I do not yet have a VIN number.

Because of the confusion and frustration I had dealt with throughout the process, the dealership did not require me to place a deposit the second time when I was finally able to order. They simply said that they would reserve it for me without a deposit, knowing full well that they could sell it if I decided not go through with the purchase.

After trying to get a hold of my sales representative at the dealership I placed my order with for over a week, I was informed today that my sales representative no longer works at the dealership which explains the lack of communication. The sales manager did confirm that my order was placed and is still on “unfulfilled” status, but he was going to call their Kia representative today to get a status update. He said he predicts it will be another 4-6 weeks before the order is filled.

Also, I was a little concerned over the legitimacy of the dealership I was working with because when Kia changed their website a few weeks ago (which is terribly designed and not user-friendly at all), the dealership I worked with no longer appeared as an existing dealerships according to Kia. Their inventory also does not appear on the main Kia website inventory list. Very odd. On the old Kia website, it did appear.

That is insane. Is any car really worth a half-year wait? More and more feeling like it is time to bale and grab a Palisade.
