Order to delivery time

I was also curious of the 20 week estimate with Lev but watching failcat has me thinking so far they are on track. They have had 7 SX's created in the last month and I was 22 on their list as of mid last month. If they keep up that rate it will be pretty close to the 20 week estimate. How many EX AWD orders are in front of you at Lev?
I haven't asked Ken that yet. Figured I would give him a week or two before I start bugging him more :) Plus I figured I'd wait until after the KFOS allocations for July

I think frustration is reaching a new high with how Kia has been handling the entire situation. Every Telluride buyer likely becomes a brand ambassador for Kia. This is especially true with those new to the Kia brand -- indeed, in videos, Kia reps have touted their conquest buyers/sales. But, to create and maintain a healthy relationship, good communication is a must, including proactive management of expectations. No doubt here that Kia, whether due to nappa leather supply issues, marketing strategy, general business strategy or something else, has done an extremely poor job in communicating what they're doing and why to those customers who have been waiting an inordinate amount of time. They are souring many of these customers (many conquest) on the Kia experience and risk losing them as brand ambassadors. Now, add on top of that, many Kia dealerships that do not communicate well or at all with their customers (save for good ones here and there, including on this board), and the Kia experience becomes seriously off-putting. Kia corporate needs to address their own communication issues and those of their dealers who represent their brand. People/customers can be understanding if they know what is going on and why (or even grudgingly accepting even if they're not happy about the what and why). Failure to communicate may very well make these new brand ambassadors into brand bashers.

Exactly!!! If it is a Nappa leather supply issue (which I have heard that it is, that it isn't, that it is only certain colors) then communicate it. KIA is doing a horrible job communicating the status of this situation to dealers and buyers that have put down deposits on these vehicles.

Not a bad plan at all. I just sent Ken a text this morning with a question but I have not spoken to him since our order went in last month. When I asked him last month, Ken had no problem checking the orders to see where we stood in line. He's been great.

@StephenCantrelle can you do me a favor and check this vin for a friend. She needs to know eta. Vin 5xyp5dhc9mg100376

I just let my kid look out the window and watch sights passing her by while we drive...

just like we all did as kids.

When I was a kid I rode around the back “play area” of station wagons / minivans without any car seats or seat belts, so... a lot has changed...

Just because 'you' (not directly you but others reading this) think they should be pumping out purely SX-P to make more money is exactly why you aren't on the board of directors for a car company.

I think the one common thing we all agree on is that KIA's communication has been terrible. And I don't care who you are - but I doubt any clear headed "board of directors" member would argue for damaging their brand and potential future brand ambassadors over a total cluster f*** of a communication strategy.

Case in point - my plan B is the Atlas SEL V6 R-Line. I have called about a half dozen VW dealerships and they all had a consistent message of product availability. Clearly VW is getting a message to them about when those will be available to order and/or buy. Try that with the same number of KIA dealerships and you will likely get a half dozen different messages. Similar vehicles, similar price points - and similar production challenges - but being handled in a very different way.

Should I ask him where I am in line overall, or where I am in line of the EX AWD group?

Yes there's been reports of leather shortages (on this forum) but KIA is still producing some models with Napa leather. Google search does not come up with any hits on this shortage so it's one more layer of uncertainty on the supply chain.

Per failcat - KIA has produced 518 SXP models in the last 30 days - or just under 10% of production to include 51 yesterday - evenly split between black, dune brown and gray. Production has actually increased on SXP models in the last week - so unless we see something official from KIA corporate - I am not believing the leather shortages. I think they are just trying to ramp up inventory rather than full fill orders from the last 12 months.

EX AWD is what you want to ask. As I understand it, from @StephenCantrelle and others, KFOS separates the allocations and the category you want to be concerned with is EX AWD.

It’s a shitty situation all around, and yes there’s a lot to unpack here about how Kia builds a brand and experience. That’s not going to be solved overnight and certainly not with 4 months of Covid headwinds and the fallout from that (everything from supply chain issues to dealers who may be struggling to stay in business). Best for them to stay true to their vision and plow forward.

We can agree to disagree here. No matter what Kia does there will be trade offs - eg one more custom SXP going to Texas is one less dealer unit going to the northeast or California, causing markups to stay high. I know folks have been waiting a long time and can’t imagine their frustration about it. I hope everything falls into place for you soon.

I'm curious how long you waited or are currently waiting for an ordered Telluride? And what trim did you order?

Curious to know what the wait time is for the Atlas. That is our back up plan as well.

Folks - don't get me wrong - the Telluride is still my first option and my dealer - @StephenCantrelle has been great to work with. Honestly - his customer service is the only reason we have held on this long. I also have defended KIA many many times on this forum as to the delays - but seeing SXP's being manufactured daily and no KFOS option this month is really really frustrating. KIA needs to figure out how to manage the customer experience.

For the SEL V6 R-Line it is 90 days until they start arriving from their factory in Mexico. But they aren't accepting orders on them until production ramps back up so as to not have customers frustrated with any further delays. I didn't ask about the other trims.

I honestly think they expect some pre-order customers to jump out of their line and just buy a SX-P Nightfall...so far...that isn't happening.

Yep - part of their super secret don't communicate strategy. Now -if the NE had SX wheels and they had prestige trims - I would have jumped. But I want all of the Prestige features and the SX wheels....so I wait.
