A few observations at the two week mark with my white/dune SXP AWD w/tow. As stated in my previous posts, my perspective and comparisons are largely based on a 20 year experience w/Audi vehicles.
The ride continues to impress. For those of you concerned about ride harshness w/the 20" wheels, no need to be. Compared to the 20" 35 - series rubber on my previous Audi S7, the SXP rides like a couch. Absolutely brilliant.
Material quality:
Not impressed with the seats. I get the sense the QA practices of the seat manufacturer is a sore spot for Kia's supply chain. As stated by others, I noticed the clips holding the seat covering on the driver seat have come loose. The clips attached to the elastic fastening bands are plastic. As such the plastic clip holding the seat cover attached under the seat is failing / bending from the tension, ultimately coming loose. That's a major fail. The cost difference in fabricating a metal clip vs plastic is negligible. I've gotta think this will be a frequent warranty claim item for many of us (all for a $.02 piece of plastic) My dealer was able to temporarily attach the failed clip. I suspect others will fail over time. My gut says there's more to the SXP delay than just availability of nappa leather. My sense is this seat supplier is addressing quality issues overall. (we should hope)
I suspect the leather surfaces will hold up well over time with proper care.
Rear Window Washer
Yes, mine is leaking as many have reported. No fix at this time. Minor nuisance. But, reminded of this issue every time I look in the rear view mirror
Bluetooth
I experienced intermittent connection issues with my iPhone. Had the dealer perform the latest infotainment SW update. (even though my VIN supposedly was't affected by the latest service advisory) Seems to be working as advertised now. For those of you dealing with the HD weather search issue, it appears the fix contains a new function that displays the outside temp in the HD weather space while it's searching for a signal. I find this redundant given the outside temp is constantly displayed in the center display.
Ambient Lighting
For those of you upset that you missed out on this feature on the EX, you're not missing much. Agreed, this is a cool feature. But, pretty much rendered useless because you can hardly notice them even on their brightest setting at night. This feature impressed my for a full 2 minutes after taking delivery. Sorry to say, there's nothing to see here. (I umm..came up with that little pun all by my self)
Had my lighted scuff plates installed. Adds a bit more "Tellurideness" to the experience. Just wish the rear door sills were lighted as well...like my previous ride. At least they're marked with Telluride lettering.
In summary, with 868 mi on the clock, I'm liking the overall experience. The ride is the big surprise for me with noted quality issues which I expected upon making my mid March purchase decision. As a musician, I chose the Telluride for it's cargo capacity. Have some shows coming up over the next 3 weeks which will put it to the cargo carrying test. Will keep you updated. Enjoy the ride!
