Prestige Package - really need it?

Yeah, I don't get why cars need rain sensing wipers. Just another gizmo to breakdown later down the road. If you can't see the rain drops in front of you on the windsheild, then it's time to quit driving. lol

1. Same reason why we have Auto DRL, Auto Headlights, Auto climate control, Auto Cruise control, Auto transmission, so you don’t have to think about it. eventually Autonomous cars.
2. When you are driving in scattered shower conditions. No need to turn it on and back off every time you pass a rain cloud.
3. When it’s not raining but roads are wet, and the car in front of you is kicking up rain onto your windshield.
4. When you are driving in a storm and the rain intensity fluctuates, fast rain to light rain. No need to adjust the speed of the wipers.

If I had to guess, once the majority of car owners experience the convenience/luxury of having these features, they are not going to want to get a new car without it. Since it isn’t a standard feature yet, most people won’t be able to justify paying premium for it. Understandable. There were probably buyers that weren’t able to justify paying more for auto transmission at one point in time as well.

i went to a dealer to test drive a telluride and they had a used s on the lot. asked the salesman about it and he said couple drove down from another state to trade it in for a sx-p. people are willing to take a giant hit in depreciation to get in on the top of the line trim. i'm a sucker for gadgets and if i were to get one it would be sx-p or nothing.

I about spit my beer out reading this. Lmao, I’ll miss not having the automatic windshield wipers (going EX trim myself), but I’ll say, the most annoying part of them was going to a car wash and getting yelled at by the person spraying my car to turn them off. I ALWAYS forgot, lol. I guess it wouldn’t matter anymore since I won’t be taking my Ebony Black Telluride through a car wash at all.

My thoughts exactly! I also barfed my coffee knowing people actually depend on the car to turn on the windshield wipers for them LOL! This could be a useful safety feature for the elderly who might not be able to notice the rain, but I agree with many convenient features of modern cars, but automatic windshield wipers (to me) is like an automatic toilet that cleanses your rear end.

I am frustrated not being able to find SX with Prestige package and Grey interior. ALso do not want to wait for 3 months.

Wondering if I am crazy to just skip the Prestige package (see below) and get SX without it?

What I would be missing:

Premium Nappa Leather Seat Trim
Premium Headliner
Head-Up Display (HUD)
Heated 2nd-Row Seats
Ventilated 2nd-Row Seats
Automatic Rain Sensing Windshield Wipers

I think this way. if you buy for cash, and the (difference) is needed then got SX if not or you are financing then the biweekly payments different is not that much and go for the prestigious. just check your finances because if you get the SX it will be too late to regret. that what happened to me. I Ended up with EX yet I could afford the SX .. too late

My mom's car has auto wipers and she didn't know how to turn them off when she went thru a carwash. I also drove her Mercedes heading thru San Antonio thru a light drizzle that was on and off. There were a million bugs hitting the windshield constantly and one thing you don't want to do is smear their guts on the windshield even more unless you use a lot of washer fluid. Every time a light drizzle hit the car, the wipers would turn on and smear the windshield. I had to constantly hit the washer fluid until the smear (from the bugs) cleared enough.

Normally I'd leave that little smear alone until I get to a gas station to fill up and clean the windshield manually. The auto wipers were a nuisance in that situation. Just my experience.

Some things are better left for the driver to control. Unless the wiper/windshield washer control stock is inconveniently located out of the reach of the driver, I would prefer not to have this feature in any of my vehicles. It's as easy as flicking the turn signals.

You do know you can turn this feature off for instances such as you described? Just because it has the auto sensing doesn't mean you have to leave them on 24/7

Well maybe if you did not fill your window washer with fluid that cost the same as liquid gold you would not be afraid to use it?

I assume you are spending hundreds of dollars a week on washer fluid in order to feel you need to ration the fluid.

I personally just get the concentrate stuff that makes like 165 gallons of fluid. I mix it out 2 gallons at a time. Each time I fill the tank, I check the oil and fill the washer fluid. At .22 cents a gallon I go nuts with it. I keep a little 1 liter spray bottle and a little squeegee to get the spots.

I really don't get why someone thinks a little dispersant, soap, and water should be rationed.

Not sure about the palisade but yes, it’s a suede and the only time I saw it, the sales guy and I had the same reaction as you. Overall, the price of the prestige package isn’t bad but with kids, I have no use for the heated/cooled seats in back and the headliner would drive me mad. I’d take the HUD and the wipers but not necessary. So, I went regular SX and I really wanted butterscotch leather so it worked out.

Officially, Kia refers to the SX Prestige feature as a “premium cloth” headliner, while Hyundai refers to the 2020 Limited and 2021 Calligraphy feature as a “microfiber suede” headliner. Despite this small naming difference, I can assure you they are practically (or more likely, exactly) the same.

And is the leather even that different besides the stitching? I’d bet money in a blind test most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, aside from the stitching. And again, if you have your heart set on butterscotch or espresso you can’t do the prestige anyhow, to each their own. I know many have said the HUD in the Telluride is nice and you wouldn’t go back to a car without it once you’re used to it...but I’ve always passed on it with other cars so I don’t know what I’m missing! They should just call the packages SX-with kids/SX-no kids, haha.

Yup.....it's all in what you want/need! I do think KIA is trying to "ramp it up" a bit.....by that I mean compete with the high end models out there. So, if you are older, have no kids, dogs, cats, etc. and can afford all the comfort and luxury look and feel....the SX P is definitely a competitor! I fit all of the above qualifications and have owned Mercedes and Escalade SUV's and this Telly beats them both.....the headliner in the MB was "plastic crap" and in the Escalade only a bit better. The MB and the Escalade had heated second row seats, but neither had COOLED second row seats!! The third row seats , which I will never need are WAY beyond the comfort and accessibility of the previous two. What KIA is saying is , "We can do this at all levels, better than most". Good for them!

Yes the leather is different. Feels thicker and more supple. It is worth the upgrade.
