• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... You should be able to take this to any Kia dealership and have it done. I got mine at a dealership next door to my work. I've since moved jobs and now the dealership closest to my home handles all of my stuff and I have the warranty and service package. They honor it no problem.

It absolutely worked. I did have to email the service dept the TSB PDF as it sounds like the dealerships aren't being notified by Kia corporate that this fix has been available since February. I managed to get it handled with my 6 month oil change so 2 birds, 1 stone...so to speak.
Awesome! I have to take mine in for a scheduled servicing and will tell them about the fix. Thank you for the update!

That's odd to hear Rigit because I have always had a different occurrence with my SX (also non Prestige). The rear AC never automatically comes on when the vehicle is started unless I had turned it on during the prior trip because someone was sitting in the 2nd row and then on the next trip, there is again an occupant in the second row. If there is, the rear AC will automatically be on again. If the 2nd row is empty, it reverts back to only the front AC being on even if it was synced when the vehicle was turned off. If the rear AC was not on when I shut off the car, the rear AC will never automatically turn on even when there are occupants in the rear on the next trip.

Because of how it has always worked in my Telluride, I have assumed that AC system was designed to work in tandem with the rear seat occupancy sensor. Now I don't usually have anyone in the rear seats so admittedly I haven't tested the system in much detail in the 5 months I've owned it because it like how mine works and I would prefer not to be running the rear AC if there is no one sitting back there. Maybe there is a setting in the digital cluster to force the rear AC to be on whenever the vehicle is started and this is how yours is set or if there is some other reason for the difference in how each of our AC systems operate.
I've read the posts on this thread, printed the TSB that was mentioned, but not sure if my Telly has a problem or I'm expecting it to do something it's not meant to do. My issue - (1) start the vehicle & set the front controls to AUTO & SYNC. (2) Press the "Rear" button on the front console & (3) an option opens on the display. (4) At the bottom left I select AUTO & front & rear are synced. Ahhh, everything is right in the world. However, turn off the vehicle, come back later, & have to repeat steps 2-4 again if I want the rear climate control to come on. Is this how it's designed?

It sounds like I am one of the lucky few that our back AC has always come on once it is set to do so no matter if anyone is in the back seat or not and will stay set and come on if it was set before the ignition is turned off. Lucky me. :)

I know the frustration. Same for the heat. But I had mine fixed last summer and it is a TSB issue. My dealer had no idea so they looked it up and were able to fix it.

As long as you do not turn the climate controls off. It should always remember the previous rear climate settings upon startup and revert to last settings used.

If you turn off climate controls in the front by hitting the “Off” button, when you turn it back on, only the front climate controls will turn on.

Unbelievable! Mystery solved, it works! Thank you @Tellthemride! That's my problem, I always shut the system off before turning off the vehicle. A 30+ year habit I guess.

That’s not the case with mine. About 20-30 minutes after you shut the car off, the system reverts to rear A/C off (and rear temp set to 72 degrees) no matter whether it was left on or off when the car was parked. A TSB was issued on this problem and I took mine to the dealer, but at that time the parts were on back order and I haven’t tried to go back yet. FWIW, mine is a 2020 built in April 2019.

Correct!!

Whenever I start up my Telluride the rear AC turns on. I always turn it off via the touch screen controls and have "locked" the controls but it keeps turning back on. Anyone know how to keep it off until I manually turn it on?
Hi There! Any luck with this issue?

Rear ventilation turned back ON yesterday. I had one of my kids in there. Maybe the car is using the rear occupancy sensor to only turn the rear ventilation ON if there is actually someone there. That would be clever and awesome in my opinion. I'll do more tests in the next days.
No kids in either the second or third row - rear ac still defaults to “on” when car starts.

Having the same problem with my S Trim, and by the looks of this thread it looks like a lot of folks with the LX and S trims are experiencing the same thing.

Whenever we start our car after an extended period of time, the rear climate control automatically turns on despite locking rear controls and turning off rear vents the previous time we were in the vehicle. Starting to get annoying to turn this off every single time we get in the car. Hoping Kia finds a solve for this soon.
Hi, I recently bought a used 2020 S and have the same issue. I had it into the dealership the other week and while this is a known issue to Kia (there is a service bulletin stating the fix) Kia not cover it as I am the 2nd owner and it is out of warranty. I was told the fix is there is a wiring harness which needs to be replaced with an one - the cost for the part is ~$15...the cost of the repair is ~$300. So I'm assuming given the labor that it's not an easy fix or is easily accessed. I have not been able to find any more details on the specific wiring harness or how to fix the issue myself.

Check out this thread which has the TSB attached. You can purchase the part for $15 and install yourself if you are handy.... TSB 047 202002 - Rear HVAC Control Head Memory Upgrade
