• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Sooo, my 2020 Telluride is at the dealership right now for a few fixes and adjustments, and I asked if they could look into installing a standard remote starter (using the fob) so that I could stop having to use that dreadful UVO app with constant reliability and convenience issues.

I saw a number of posts in the past months referring to third-party products one could install to get a standard remote start feature, and some of them seemed quite expensive. My Kia dealer just called back and said they can simply program free of charge my current standard key fobs with a sequence of keys to push, and it'll start the car. Nothing to install, just some reprogramming. I was definitely under the impression that UVO was the only built-in remote starter system in my 2020, and that the big feature I was missing from the newer 2021 models was a standard key fob-based remote starter... I'm confused 😅

Please post a video of it in action when you get your car back. Would be interested to see.

Reprogramming option might be specific to Canadian spec? It has always been available for the 2020 middle east spec version, but they also had the 2021 style fob with the actual start button. Haven’t heard of this being an option for 2020 US model yet.

Curious how it worked out for you? Would love to get feedback. I purchased my 2020 Kia in February 2020 and my UVO subscription is up for renewal in a couple of months. No way I am going to renew, would rather start the car manually, but if Kia dealers have a solution that doesn't need additional parts/fobs, I am all ears.

What is the sequence for the Key Fob? I have been trying to get info from a Kia dealership here in the US, and doesn't seem to lead me anywhere. I would love to know if the dealership you went to is able to share this program change to the dealership I am dealing with. Any and all help would be greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

The dealer showed him the answer below when he showed up at the dealership.

How to program remote start function (2020 Telluride).

Trying to tell you it is a wild goose chase that doesn’t exist. Aftermarket or nothing.
Should’ve been your first response, but thanks for the fun

I thought I'd do a quick follow-up on my original post, since I totally forgot about it afterwards 🙈

It turned out that, obviously, my dealer was confused about the whole thing, and of course said I could pay for one to be installed. Instead, I asked how to go about making a complaint about having purchased a "luxury" car without a decent, fast and reliable remote starter (which UVO is definitely not). I had to follow up on my complaint a few times, but no apparent progress.

Then after they botched a winter tire change recently, I asked if they wanted to work out my remote starter issue before I fill out the automatic Kia survey. They responded by offering to install a two-way remote starter free of charge, which they did today. Finally! :)

I'm glad they worked it out, just not a fan of 3rd party equipment and additional fobs. Now that summer is here, remote start is a distant thought. It seems needless to counter the warm air in your car with blasting AC when opening the windows will do the same in a fraction of the time. Not having the ability to lower the windows remotely is a bigger issue with me in the summer. Perhaps another luxury car fail.

My 2005 Honda Odyssey had the window lowering as OEM. It cannot be that difficult. I just needed to push the Unlock button twice, and hold the button down for 2-3 seconds, and watch the hot air flow out. This is not a technical problem.
