• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Bought new 2021 Telluride SX and having trouble getting remote start to work. Went back to dealership and they couldn’t help. I finally got the remote start to work using the app on my phone but I can’t get it to work on my fob. I found where it said to hold down the lock button for three seconds which I did but the button on the fob still won’t start the car. I appreciate any help!

I'm interested to know how the dealer could not assist you with this, in person!?
I figured out later that part of the problem was that on the app it still had my 2020 Telluride listed. When I deleted the 20 model then I could start the new car but like I said I still can’t get the car started with my fob.

You push lock on the remote, followed immediately by holding down the remote start button for several seconds.

Look on page 4-10 of your owner's manual.

This is exactly how it will work. I have done this so many times, just lock the car, and straightaway press/hold the start button.

I guess its not easy because of the fob shape, the buttons are a bit small.
My car is a 2020 and has it.

Curious if you would be able to provide details on your resale value for your 2020 telly. I’ve heard several members and Facebook group members mention they were going to go this route, but I can’t imagine the cost difference, trading in the car just for remote start on the fob is cost effective versus buying aftermarket remote start.

Unless you had a different reason for trading in your car to get the 2021 model.

We had the LX model which doesn’t have many extras and I wanted the top of the line which I thought was the SX. Of course I later learned there was a “prestige package model” so I pulled the trigger to early. We had our telluride for 17 months and we had less than 13,000 miles on it. They gave us $33,000 for it and sold it within a week.

Ok that makes more sense to go from the lowest trim to the highest trim. Going from SXP to SXP would make less sense to me.

Still surprised you were able to sell your 2020 model with 13k miles for the same price as a new 2021 MSRP. The dealer must have marked up a lot to try to make a profit off the resale.

Let me get this straight. Do 2020 models have remote start?

I remember Honda Accords that just required the owner to buy the newer model years' key fob and have it programmed for your car and the remote start would work. They wanted you to trade up for a feature that was already built into the car but they wouldn't tell you. I wonder if this is a similar situation?

Yes, the Middle East market. That's because we don't get the UVO access.

It has yet to be seen if the dealer is able to “trade up” or convert a 2020 telluride so that it would work with the 2021 style remote start fob. If it ever does become an option I am sure many owners will be opting for the remote start conversion.

Until then, it is possible to use your OEM fob remote pressing lock three times with an aftermarket module from Accessorides.

I purchased the remote start from "accessorides dot com" My SX is a 2020. Installed myself under 2 hrs. Your mechanic may be quicker than me but it can be DIY. I called Accessorides tech support with a problem, they walked me through my question. Directions included were clear. The remote WORKS! Press your OEM key fob 3 times engine will run 10 minutes. This is a great alternative to UVO's "unreliable & expensive" remote start at 30.00 per month subscription. Accessorides highly reccommended. Hey Kia! Thanks for helping out the small business - I am only a customer of accessorides. An unsolicited plug.

I also added the Accessorides plug and play remote start. Terrific. Works great . Install is not difficult. The app was a pain. KIA should offer a remote start without having to use the app. For under $300.00 I have what I wanted. Thank You forum members.

I need to time it, but it seems to me like the telluride shuts off after a brief period when I use the remote start. My wife’s truck has the feature, so I tested them both side by side and the f150 ran for at least 2 minutes longer. I guess I need to pull out the timer and gather some data. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Default is 10 minute run time for Kia remote starter. If your are near the car at any point during that time and open the door:
  1. The car will shut off if it cannot detect your remote fob in range
  2. Activate takeover and keep the car running if it does detect your fob.

Hmmmm I am not sure what range the fob was in relation to the car. Good to know. So as long as I don’t open the doors it should go 10 minutes. I’m gonna test that. Thanks!!!
