• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Could someone with an SX disconnect the electrical connector off of one of your headlights and take a photo for me? It’s super simple, just press the release “button” and pull. I’ve attached photos of my EX connector to show the two views I need. Trying to see if the electrical connections are the same or if I’ll have to do some custom wiring.

Well if you had the SX headlights you would already know what connector you need. So if you don’t mind telling us, what are your plans?

Go to eBay and look at the pictures of the rear of both types of housings that are listed for sale. To me both look the same, but you be the judge.

It’ll cost you a ton of money even if it’s a direct retrofit. Even damaged/used on eBay cost $400 or more. Can’t imagine how much a new set will cost.

I’ve looked at the eBay lights. It’s hard to tell the specifics on the connector which is why I asked for photos like I showed. I’m not worried about cost. Just need help with photos of connector on an SX.

Unfortunately they look different, so they won't be a direct retrofit.

Hard to see the pins on either photo, which is why I requested the specific photos. Hopefully someone can oblige me.

I wonder if there is a service manual I can buy or detailed wiring diagrams. That’s really all I’d need.

This TSB might help?

Awesome find, unfortunately it shows the halogen headlight. But it did give part numbers. Brand new about $625 per light

I’ve done a bit of testing on the EX headlight connectors and developed this wiring diagram. I’m fairly confident the SX connector is a 14 pin whereas the EX is a 10 pin. This won’t be a huge problem to overcome as I intend to make some custom connector pigtails and have already ordered the connectors to make them. Once these are made the swap should be plug and play. More to follow.

Very nice. Do you know what the additional 4 pins are for?

Once the wiring is figured out, what does the rest of the upgrade consist of? Any idea on cost?

Not sure Steve. Based on photos I've seen not all of the pins are used in the SX connector. The EX uses all 10 pins; I suspect kia made them different so techs couldn't install the wrong headlight in the car, but who knows?

Still working this. I have the photos of the SX connectors and have a pair of female end SX connectors and a pair of male end EX connectors to make the plug and play harnesses. Next step is to purchase a used SX headlamp off eBay and do some testing. More to follow.
