Sick to my stomach: Paint and windshield issues

What wrong with Kia auto windshield why does they so easy on my 2018 Kia Soul i had to replace it and now i was washing it couple days ago noticed my hood is full of chips

Did a 2,600 mile road trip to Montana. We have a 2nd home there and I have done this trip scores of times in other vehicles. Cleaning up our brand new Telluride today and I noticed that there are numerous paint chips all over the front of the vehicle, a handful on the hood and some on the mirrors. The windshield also has many micro chips. The font area with the Telluride lettering has in excess of fifty chips.

Now driving across I-90 in the winter is rough on vehicles. They use sand on the roads and obviously it gets kicked up by the vehicles in front. But sand shouldn't chip a vehicle's paint.

I have never had issues like this with the Chevy trucks and Jeep vehicles we have owned that have made this trip. Sure a rock getting kicked up will chip paint but sand shouldn't.

Very disappointed with the durability of the paint and windshield. Otherwise this is the best highway vehicle we have ever owned.

I'm going to get a paint pen and have our insurance company look at the windshield.

This sucks.
3M fim protection will protect your paint especially the front surfaces including headlights, fogslights, mirrors and A pillars

There are bigger problems to deal with the Telluride (mine has not arrived yet).

The windshield wipers cannot be lifted to clear ice and snow.
It will accumulate under the upper hood lip and break the windshield wiper arms. The upper hood lip prevents wiper arms from being lifted, so the trough can be cleared of ice.
you ever thought of reading the manual? it clearly states how to put your wipers in the position to change. Let me tell you how -start car, turn car off and within 5 seconds push the wiper control up and hold. presto now you can change your wipers. To put back in position, start car and hold lever up again. The manual is more than extra weight for your car. Try reading it before saying bigger problems exist. OBTW you can pull the manual up online too if you can not figure out how to open the manual. For ice and snow get y up a few minutes earlier and start you car to let the heat melt it away. After this thread now way would I want to scrap the windshield for it might chip since these cars are built so cheap. LOL Really try using some common sense every now and then.

G-727382, how about you wait to get yours before you start telling everyone what the "big" problems are. Jeeez, really?

You're not alone. That's for sure. I purchased my Stinger GT2 and put it in the garage and didn't drive it until the day of my clear bra/ceramic appointment. I drove it at night slowly and when I got to my appointment they showed me the chip on my hood. All the way through the paint. It was nice weather, clean roads and I never heard a thing hit the vehicle, but there it was. I used the paint pen and it came out all puffy and awful. Now there's a bubble in my clear bra under the ceramic. That was at 35 miles. Now I have several thousand and still get chips all the way through. Even with the ceramic. You get what you pay for, I guess.

I lease a 2019 Kia forte and granted, it is a cheap car, I use it for work mostly. But within a couple of months of having the car I have accumulated a few windshield chips, nothing major, none of them required any repair, but it says a lot about the durability of Kia glass which is not good. I have not had this happen with any other car I've owned, even used cars. This should NOT be happening to brand new cars out for sale right now. I feel your pain brother.

Ceramic coating does not protect against chips, it only protects against bird droppings, tree sap, bug juice.. to protect from rock chips you need o go with a PPF or clear bra. Most of them are self healing and really work well. Only problems I've had is you can get dirt buildup near the seams and it's a little tougher to clean there without damaging it.

My bad. Not sure what PPF is, but Clear bra sounds like a great idea for protection of the hood, bumper as well as the sides.

i got 3M paint protection for the whole front to hopefully avoid this situation

I wish I had done that now. I had the Xpel film on the hood of my 2500hd. It was jet black and the film didn't look great on it. Ship has sailed for my Telluride though. I'm just relieved to know it wasn't defective paint. Luckily these micro chips can't be seen unless you get close.

I cannot believe you complain about this. How is that a defect? So that means the people that do 3M clear bra and ceramic coating are hypocrites then? I'm sure the robots paint with the same process as any other top manifacturers do. You guys use this place to just bitch and complain. You are driving 75+ mph on some of these highways plus the wind and there will be debris that will impact with your car. I came here thinking there will be people that will pimp out their cars posting DIY's with pictures but some of you guys complaints are worse than hearing women complaining in body shops. So if you are driving and get a rockchip on your windshield, you are gonna try to warranty that too then? Where is your common sense? Even if you get the most expensive bumper to bumper warranty, they are not gonna cover your wear-and-tares such as your brake pads, wipers, tires, belts, etc.

Move along to another thread please and leave mine alone. There are guys like you in every forum I belong to. Probably 30 plus years old, living in your parents basement and come on the forums to pump yourself up.

Wow, can't believe the know it alls on here! You should be able to lift a vehicle's wipers up and out to clear snow without having to go through all those hoops! I love Kia's have had a Sportage and a Sorento.....never had any kind of problems with either. Was eyeballing the Telluride as I have read nothing but good things about it...at least till now. Something is wrong if paint is chipping that much.

Got a cut on silver part of front bumper, must have hit rock on I-85,on one of my doors only at a angle looks like someone open their door and hit mine.guess people just don't care about others peoples cars.didn't break the paint and cannot see it looking straight at it.guess nothing can be showroom anymore.last new car I will ever buy.

Already experiencing this issue with mine and it is super frustrating. The wipers also pick up additional moisture each time they drop the bottom of the windshield and come back up. When the wind is super cold (it's been in the negatives already here in WY) it just freezes immediately on the windshield eventually creating a bigger ice problem directly on the windshield, especially in the drivers side...

..at times (not often), I'm happy to pay the 'sunshine tax' here in San Diego :) But my windshield will probably crack from earthquakes and my paint will probably chip from ash from all of the wildfires... :(

I hope you dont need a new windshield.

I was rear ended when stopped at a red light in my Telluride. The dealer then broke my rear windshield trying to move it from the old lift gate to the new....

Been waiting 3months for a rear windshield to come from Korea... it is terrible... the delear has had my car almost longer than I owned it.

Paint on most vehicles is not wear and tear, especially on a new vehicle.

The Kia is not a performance car where they skimp on paint for weight.
Kia skimps on paint , period, none of my other vehicles GMC Sierra, Ford F series, Chevy Colorado, Dodge Ram have suffered paint failures like the three Kias I have owned.

I currently own a 2017 Sportage. I've owned an 05 and 08 Sorrento. Every Kia I've owned has lousy paint jobs. Kia skimps on the dumbest things.

Sorry to hear they do the same crap on the T

My Telluride is doing the same thing. Paint seems very thin and i took it back to the dealer and was told they could not help. Anyone else have issues with the airbag light coming on sometimes while sitting in traffic? The dealer can never duplicate it even though I have video of it happening.
