• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Smart vs Comfort Mode-what do you use and why?

🤖 AI Summary

I only use comfort and sport. comfort hanging around town or cruising on the rural highways around here. Sport a few seconds before I smoke some slow pokes! Then back to comfort.
"smoke some slow pokes!"? In a Telluride, you're not "smoking" anyone. My daughter's Prius in sport mode beats my Telly off the line in sport mode. She still gives me a bad time about that day.

Is there a way to have the Telluride default to Sport Mode? Still waiting on mine.
No. If you turn off the car in sport or snow, it will default back to comfort when you restart. Comfort, smart, and eco will persist across ignition cycles, however.

It's certaintly faster than our 4runner was and my tacoma is! Which admittedly, isn't fast.

Just drove 1200 miles home from the dealer and I am happy with the how the trans downshifted on demand, fairly quick. This is mostly highway driving at around 80 mph with 5 people on board. It was on Comfort the whole time. Haven’t driven in city much yet. I also watched the traction when going around curves and saw it was shown on the rear wheels too. Glad I got awd.

I had a road trip recently and when it wasn’t on auto cruise control it was in Smart. Worked reasonably well going between Comfort and Eco. There were a lot of hills where I was and it did a good job of engine braking and downshifting when needed, and automatically switched into Comfort mode quite a bit. Back in Florida where it’s flat it doesn’t seem to switch much and I find it a bit more annoying to use, so back to Comfort it goes.

What does comfort mode suppose to do anyway? I know the suspension is not adjustable

throttle response. It's punchy in sport and any blip sends it forward. In comfort it takes a little more pressure on the throttle and its a smoother, slower, acceleration. Good for stop and go and around town when you are just cruising to the store.

I see. so it’s between Sport and Eco. Thx

Our sales rep. set our telluride up for smart mode before i understood comfort mode was the default mode. Is one setting preferred over the other and if so, why?

Thanks in advance for the help!
I use comfort mode. My husband loves the sport mode when he getting on freeways and getting that burst of speed

Live in Colorado with a lot of mountain driving. The Telluride replaced an X3 and the 2nd car is a 335. I like to drive quick to get ahead of congestion at which point I'll go into cruise control 3-5mph above speed limit and 4 car lengths behind if someones in front of me. I struggled with the transmission when we first got the car. Really couldn't tell a difference between the different modes. Car and I really weren't in synch.

27k miles later I just leave it on comfort and it does what I need. Don't know if I adjusted or the car did but in comfort mode I'm still able to make the lane changes I need and get enough punch to create space between me and most of the tailgaters once the cars in front move out of the way.

I just leave ours in Comfort all the time. I don't like Sport mode, it feels a little jerky (without actually being sport) and the inputs aren't as smooth. I have an actual fast/sporty car for when I want to drive like that (340i), and the Telluride is not remotely sporty. It is very comfortable, and I think the smoothness of the inputs in Comfort mode (the accelerator pedal, shift points, etc) are well-suited to the character of the car. If you need to go, put your foot down -- you're not actually getting more power in sport mode, so there's little reason to use it.

Sport mode is useful for situations where I may need to vary speed and need quick response. For example, I merge onto the freeway, then have to move through 4 or 5 lanes of traffic for a left exit that comes up all too quickly.

I do agree that the Telluride is no sports sedan.

I don’t use sport mode myself but putting foot down on a wrong gear will take time to get power. Sport mode put you in that right gear for the right purpose.

Personally I use Smart mode almost all the time. It automatically shifts between Comfort, Eco and Sport based on how you’re driving at the time. I find it almost always gets it right allowing me to let it do the thinking.
