2020 Telluride that we waited 8 months for. Dealer says rock hit condenser and put a hole in it. I already knew this would be the answer as I did research prior to taking it in and saw the nick on the condenser. Seems to be a common problem with a poor design on several levels. Condenser has little to no protection and is poorly constructed to damage this easily. $2900 to fix it. Less than 6k miles on it. Not even covered by the extended warranty we purchased. Total garbage. Very upset with Kia and will never purchase another if Kia doesn’t make this right. And now I have to Jerry rig some kind of shielding on a a brand new car, so I’m not spending another 3k. Never been off of a hard road so rock potential is possible but minimal. The bugs that were smashed into it seem to cause an excessive amount of damage also. Kia please fix this issue and don’t destroy customer satisfaction. You’ve come so far.

Telluride—Proving u can’t always get what you want
It’s weird, there is another guy that has been complaining about this on another thread ad infinitum. This is what insurance is for
It’s very common apparently and seems to be a design flaw that Kia should at least have a suggested fix for. Insurance currently is saying no they won’t cover it. Most people say it’s on 1400$ fix but my dealer says $2900!

What type of insurance covers parts? I don't think any provider would cover it under comprehensive and it certainly doesn't fall under bodily harm, collision or under-insured.

Screens on the front of the grill will let leaves and debris fall off easily, or be washed off by rain. A screen placed inside of the grill can allow leaved and debris to get packed in the grill and trapped. The Telluride does not have a very deep grill, so this is not as bad of a possibility...

Maybe I'm missing something here but generally speaking, if an object hits you, it should be covered under comp. (Examples, rock gets kicked up and hits your car, something falls off vehicle in front of you and hits your car without hitting the road first.)
If you hit an object, it should be covered under collision. (Examples, rock/tire/whatever is lying in road and you hit it, object falls off vehicle in front of you but bounces off road before hitting your car, etc).
Both would be subject to any applicable deductibles. If there is visual evidence on the part supporting an object striking and damaging it, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be covered under the auto policy.

This is correct. Collision covers striking an object on the ground, say a brick that fell off the back of a work truck and you drive over it doing damage to your suspension. Things that hit you while in the air (rock flying through the air and strikes your windshield or, in this case your condenser) is covered under comprehensive or comp coverage. Just need the proof that the REASON your condenser is damaged is due to an impact (usually a small leaking hole in the face of condenser) and it is covered less your deductible. What is not covered is wear and tear so if the mechanic says its leaking from a seal or hose then no auto insurance will cover that. But an impact from a rock should be easy to prove and see on the front face of the condenser. See example of a rock damaged condenser attached...

According to dtanker69, it is possible for insurance to cover as a comprehensive claim. He only posted the same message 8 times of his 11 total posts from his account to get the message across to you all.

A bit of both? When I look at other car models in parking lots, they all have the same huge openings under the grills for the condenser to cool. You would think if they are going to leave it so exposed the condenser should be more durable to impact from road debris.
They should make the fins long enough so that even if they dent it wont crack the coolant pipes behind them.

thin aluminum and poor design. Moreover, large holes do not mean that there will be problems. There are many cars with large holes in the radiator grille, but there are no such problems.
Telluride has the middle and bottom holes at an unsuitable height.
