  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Summary of existing situation?

Text conversation with Terre Haute Kia, Brad Davis:

Brad: "Well you're in luck. It just landed here today!"
Me: Nice, are you guys doing MSRP, or higher?
Brad: MSRP
Brad: unless you want the added safety system then it's $600 more than the MSRP.
Me: Which safety system? Interior protection package or something?
Brad: Pulse Braking
Brad: and spare tire
Brad: that $600 isn't going to make a difference on the monthly payment if that's what you're wondering. it'll be different by like a couple dollars.

I haven't responded. I guess they are "adding" a spare tire and "pulse breaking" for $600. This is utter BS, correct?
It's not even the money...
He said, "unless you want it"

Doesn't sound like a pure dealer add-on...did you say No thank you, let's just wrap up this deal at MSRP and move on?

...and if I say no he what, removes the spare tire? So then I have to find a spare tire? haha.

I'm not beyond correction and I'm happy to hear any comments, but it seems to me that when a deal starts this way, it won't end well. Is it wise of me to cut a deal with a dealer who I have to drive 10 hours each way to do a deal with, trusting he won't alter the deal when I get there, when he's trying to upcharge me in the first two minutes on "pulse braking" and the spare tire. These are the kinds of questions I don't normally deal with in the course of a day haha.

ETA: To be honest, I can understand that these guys are probably tempted daily to make a few extra bucks off of naïveté. Their margins are supposedly really tight. In my business, honesty in sales is actually rewarded because most of my customers are repeat customers. I doubt it is that way for auto dealers much anymore (repeat business), which is sad in a way.

+$600 markup depending on trim isn't bad. I'd say leave off Pulse Braking but I'll still pay the $600 extra. Of course depends on your preferences and the value of your time.
