• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Where we bought our Telluride they told us to not use synthetic oil. Is this true?
It's oil change time.

I know my SX had synthetic in it. Look under hood. Should be a tag what to use. I think they told you wrong. Also look in book for your climate and it says what to use

I agree stick with a good quality full synthetic and premium gas. Also I just got back from a 60 miles drive and used sport mode to keep RPM high, my gas mileage increased to what i got when new. This engine doesn't like to be babied, once in a while you need to give it a good drive.

I agree on the full synthetic but why the premium gas? This engine is built for 87 and you likely won’t see any tangible benefits to using it, just an additional hit to the bank account.

Most mechanics recommend regular fuel unless specifically required. They say 87 burns hotter and therefore cleaner. They also recommend "Top Tier" brands such as Mobil or Shell because they have more added cleaners than non top tier. These companies can be found at toptiergas.com.

I use mid grade usually if it has 5% or less ethenol, 87 grade has a higher ethenol content 10% + in my area. I would not use it. I also only buy dependable brand fuel such as Shell, Chevron...Problem with high ethenol content fuels are detrimental to gaskets and fuel pumps since they use plastics in the manufacturing. Ethenol does help to boost the Octane rating which makes the cost of fuel cheaper. I rather keep corn for food not for fuel.ha ha

Interesting. I’ve read that e15 can cause issues with pumps and gaskets but I’ve never heard that for 87. I recently read a great thread in another group I’m in that discussed this topic as well as where to buy your gas, many of the contributors being haulers. They confirmed that no matter where you get your gas, it all comes out of the same tanker. Obviously additives come into play but they essentially said that as long as you’re using a busy station, there isn’t much of a difference from station to station.

Using “87” is fine and actually recommended in the manual. Probably just use an additive as it gets up there in mileage to help clean out injectors and such

I guess it depends were you live and the refinery. As I said if 87 has Up To10% ethanol I'm ok with that, but at the pumps crossing the country I've seen 10+. Shell 87 for instance says up to 10% ethanol I'm ok with that as well but for colder weather I prefer 5%. Ethanol loves water!!! Please correct me if I'm wrong since I joined the forum to learn and appreciate all the members comments or experiences. So thank you again to all of you.

Modern cars are built to run on E10 and E15 and I’ve not heard of any modern cars having issues with deteriorating lines and hoses because of ethanol. In classic cars this is definitely an issues that owners have to contend with. Not to mention there are only 2 states where manufacturers are allowed to produce premium gas without ethanol, all other 48 states put ethanol in premium same as 87 so you’re just throwing money away to avoid it. I’m more concerned about whether the gas I’m using is Top Tier as carbon deposits due to direct injection is an issue for modern engines (unless it’s equipped with dual injection-direct/port injection like some Toyota’s). If not using Top Tier consistently Chevron Techron is a solid additive that will give the same benefit if used a few times a year.

In Canada the Top Tier offers 87 up to e10, mid grade up to e5 and premium 0 ethanol.

Where are you getting the oil filter from?
I would get OEM filter at the dealership. When I had my 2008 santa fe, I found OEM oil and air filters equal or better than other quality brands. Also by my own experience the brake pads were excellent. As for the oil, I know my Hyundai and Kia dealerships only uses Castrol Quartz Full Synthetic. I've given my Santa Fe 3.3l to my daughter it has 204,000 Km. and had a full mechanical inspection at the Hyundai dealership it needed absolutely nothing done. It operates the same as when I first bought it new. Hopefully my 2020 Telluride will be just as reliable. Proper maintenance is very important.

Although full synthetic is not "necessary" according to the manual. There are only a couple non synthetic oils that meet the recommendations required by the manufacturer.I would use it just to make sure it meets the requirements.

The manufacturer cert is ACEA /A5/B5. I knowMobil 1 5w30. And Pennzoil ultra platinum 5w30.have this certificate. there may be others.
