TAKING NEW ORDERS FOR 2022 TELLURIDES SOLD AT MSRP NO MARKUP ON ORDERES!!!!!

My order was given to the sales consultant, with a 500.00 deposit on March 17th 2021. Have not received a build date as of yet. My dealer is a small allocation dealer, so it could be awhile, but I can wait. Just sold my 2016 Ford Expedition, so don't want the hassle of a trade in. I'v been on this Forum for a while now listening and learning.
I put in an order with $1,000 down on a 21’ AWD SX NF/P/T in gravity grey/black Napa back on October 9,2020. So a little over 7 months and still no word other than I am getting a 2022. This is as of yesterday when I called the dealer and spoke to the sales manager.

So I have done a bit of research on the delivery time frame of “ordered” Tellurides. I believe the ordering for 2021 models ended on April 30. That being said if you can wait it out, you will be getting a 2022 model. So they haven’t announced pricing or options for the 2022 model yet. I suspect it should be some time in June. So with a June date for release of pricing and options, that means they can’t put in orders and get ETA till sometime in Jume, probably late June. Now production time is another issue. I really suspect that they will start to deliver these 2022 models in very late August to September. The deposit that the dealer had you put down is merely a psychological tool to “take” you out of the market and shopping for other cars or at other dealers. Hate to burst your bubble but I’m in the same boat as you. I may just go ahead and get a GMC Yukon instead. But, GMC has the same issues as KIa at this time. Hope for Agust but expect September. if you have any contrary information or other theories as to how this will play out, please let me know. I should inform you that I placed an order about a month ago and still nothing from the dealer.
I'm going to wait. I expect September, still going to wait. Saving for a Bigger down payment, plus some extras, tint, ppp, mats, and then we'll see!!!!!!

Wow October? That means the dealer was taking a lot of orders and not putting them in the system before your order came through!

So just an update for everyone. To reiterate what posted earlier, the 2021 build out orders are complete. So, if your dealer hasn’t given you an ETA then you will get a 2022 when they open up the order system. The honest dealer, not my local dealer, gave me the information. He also said they can’t order as the system isn’t open to order yet. He is hoping for sometime in June but wasn’t exactly sure. They haven’t announced pricing or the possibility of different options either. He told me that to get one, your looking at a 6 month wait. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but…..

Yes that is true of the order system is not open yet but it depends on where you are on waiting to go into the system plus it also depends on the allocations for that trim level!

Sorry I did forget to add that deposits are really a gimmick. They can’t take a deposit on a car that they don’t have even if the car is in stock. The honest dealer even told me that they couldn’t take cash in person for a deposit as it’s illegal in many states. Tennessee for sure. As I stated earlier it’s just a method to make you stop shopping and “commit” to them. Knowledge is power. It’s a crazy time to buy a car for sure.

Thanks for shooting straight with us about the ordering system. I applaud you for you honesty. The dealer I spoke with in Tennessee told me that the whole deposit thing is a gimmic. Just as I stated in my earlier post. All it does is show the dealer that you are very interested in purchasing a car but legally, In Tennessee and many other states, they can’t take a deposit on a car. It’s totally refundable and is merely a tactic to keep you from buying from another dealer or cross shopping another make of vehicle. knowledge is power. It’s a crazy time to buy a car.

No I get it but these are very hard to get and we lose the open allocation slot if the customer changes their mind! The dealer gets penalized by the manufacture!

Just out of curiosity, if a person decides that they don’t want a telluride that the dealer ordered for them, would the dealer be crazy enough to call the factory and tell them that they no longer want the car? Is so, as they say in the south, that’s plain ignorant. The dealer would loose a car that they would have no problem selling. Just seems weird to me. They would loose stock that would sell in a matter of hours.

No we don’t call the factoryit’s when you take the original name off the order in the system and they see that that’s when you lose the allocation!

Howdy. New to the forum (first post!) I'm in the market to order a 2022. What dealership are you at? I'm in Chicago, would I have to come to you to pick up the order? Or could it be delivered to one of my local dealers? Thanks for the help :)

I'd suggest putting in an order at the Waukegan dealership, Classic Kia. Much closer to you. We ordered through them at MSRP. Here's the email for John Plewka, he was great to work with. Tell him Brad sent you.

Hi Tortuga, thanks for the tip! I'll be looking into Waukegan later today.

Closer might be a better way if they are actually submitting your order when it comes open. Make sure you get in order number! Let me know if you have any other questions.

@tellmont

John had a VIN and ETA for me 5 days after I ordered. He'd be the first to say that was mostly luck. You wouldn't get a VIN nearly that quickly especially with the delay for 2022's but he'll definitely get your order in ASAP. He kept me updated weekly on status of my order and was always quick to respond to any questions I had.

What do you do with the order number? Is it the same as the confirmation # that the dealership would've given me the day I placed my order?

Thanks Aaron - good to know re: order number. I haven't ruled out driving to your dealership yet!

It’s literally impossible to get a Vin five days after the order is excepted by Kia in less it was already in the system. The order number will tell you that it’s been excepted by Kia and committed to be built. It will have a ETA but the can change as well as even if you have a vin it can change as well. The dealership can tell you exactly where it is in the process once it has an order number!
