• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Outdated proven hauler or new kid on the block ???

Who else had both in mind and what swayed you?

I went to the Honda Dealer determine to buy a Pilot, I was tired of driving around and calling all the KIA Dealers and dealing with the markup . What swayed me was the narrow/small front seats and the lack of a place to rest my arm when I was test driving the Pilot, except for the folding armrest.
Oh and the Telluride looks AWESOME.

I was about to buy the 2020 black edition because they told me they'd give me a great deal. They gave me $0 off and their rates were 8.5% APR minimum. What I liked was tv with hdmi, being a special "limited" model, and the arms on the driver's and front passenger's seats. In comparison it lacked so much stuff compared to palisade/telluride that, when my wife saw the telluride again, she was convinced that was the one we wanted. We went through almost buying a highlander again but my wife said it was tiny in comparison.

Yeah that markup at some is annoying

Cargo space in the Telluride won out for us. My family doesn’t pack lightly, and we are already downsizing from our Traverse. I was extremely disappointed with the new Traverses, so they aren’t contenders this time around.

I saw one dealer that had some paint protection plan for $1400 applied to all limited Palisade "they come pre-applied from factory". What a bs way of making a profit. Besides that, I havent seen any dealers around MO/IL charging a mark-up. I think there was one charging a mark up on Palisade so I never bothered calling them. I was given the option to order one or place a deposit on one of the upcoming ones. Ended up with $1500 rebate and low apr. I was willing to drive up to 250 miles but ended up being the dealer in town, thankfully, who called me when one showed up. No deposit.

Good luck!

This was on a Telluride, not a Palisade, right?

Yes ended up with a telluride.

It was a crazy couple of weeks. Gave up on all of it, then a palisade showed up and disappeared, then telluride appeared when I was giving in and going with the competition. Palisade was #1 and telluride #2 but everything else in my mind didnt come close to these two. I wanted the remote start on key fob with the palisade and the full digital instrument panel and paddle shifters and electronic seat recline, but I'm not upset the least to having gone with the Telluride. Ended up being cheaper and has tow hitch.

The pilot’s second row air comes from the center console only, which doesn’t fair well for kids in rear-facing car seats. I liked that the telluride has second row air coming from the ceiling of the car.

I really hated the way the pilot drove with that CVT transmission and very questionable reliability.

The 2019 Pilot has a CVT? I know the Subaru Ascent does, but I thought the Pilot got an updated 9 speed transmission for 2019.

9 speed had a lot of issues a couple of years ago.

Touring and Elite have 9-speed; the other trims have a 6-speed, I believe. From what I read, the 9-speed transmission on the model 2016-2018 was pretty bad, and often having to be fixed/replaced under warranty (even before 25k miles). For 2019+ it sounds like they did some "refinement".

Yep, sorry, I got it confused with my Ascent test drive. I didn’t like the way the transmission shifted in either.

Honda can’t seem to make a reliable transmission. The brand’s reliability scores suffer for that reason. Making a reliable transmission is extremely difficult.

I was cross shopping with the Subaru Ascent. While the ascent had better acceleration, gas mileage and the steering was tighter, the telluride overall was more comfortable, quieter ride and much better looking vehicle imo. Also the 10yr 100k warranty was a factor for me.

Other things that I like better about the Telluride:
1.The infotainment system (although I like the cd/dvd player and rear entertainment options in the Pilot)
2.The blind spot cameras on both sides of the vehicle, rather than just one side
3. I totally agree with the group here about the warranty and not entirely trusting the transmission, even though it’s improved some since earlier models.

There was one perk I liked about the pilot: android auto navigation directions showed up in the instrument panel.

My wife really wanted the pilot because she had always wanted one. She was pissed because after comparing with all vehicles I always reverted back to palisade/telluride. Ahe was between highlander and pilot.

I liked the hdmi on the infotainment in the back, but other than that and the android auto integration...

Once we discarded honda due to being incredibly cocky at the dealer...the guy thought palisade was VW, so he kept criticizing VW. I wasnt sure why until it hit; he had never seen a Palisade or Telluride and he was just trying to use brand reputation to say the Pilot was better no matter what. When I complained about how much stuff I'd be giving up when switching to the pilot the guy said "but how long have you lived without it? You don't need any of that". To which I answered, no I do need that, that's something my wife has been needing for the past 10 years. We still let them run their numbers to see what kind of "amazing" deal they were throwing our way. The answer? Zero.

Then I got the call of the available telluride, ran to the dealer as fast as I could, my wife met me there and my wife was converted. All other cars were lacking when compared; smaller, fewer USB, no android auto, smaller screens, no cooled seats, some didnt have heated or cooled rear seats, and about same or cheaper than competition. It just made no sense. After she had fought me so much because I kept "whining" Tellu-Sade or bust, she finally realized why. This came even more apparent the first time she actually drove it. Heads up display, all types of cameras, cooled seats, good transmission and quick acceleration (coming from a grand caravan)

I've owned a honda before, but it was used, from a Ford lot. All my experiences at honda dealers have been horrible. When the dealers starting APR was 8.5% without looking at my credit, and $0 discount, told my wife there was a mistake. But that kind of cockiness trying to validate themselves just made it laughable. Get off your high horse, your great pilot has had a few bad years recently specially with transmission. Good luck. I saved $5k off the marp compared to the honda, and a heck of a lot more on the APR throughout the loan's life, plus a discount.

Won't look back.

I too was between these two models. The Honda would have been a lot less money, but the Telluride interior is much larger and upscale compared to the Pilot. The recent class action lawsuits against Honda for the Infotainment systems in the 18-19 Odyssey and Pilot was the final straw for the Honda. Honda's quality seems to be slipping, and I suspect that their resale will follow suit. So far, I love the Telluride.
