In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. This is only the second Telly that I've seen at Costco while I was getting gas. We ended up on opposite sides of the same pump yesterday. I spoke with him a bit and he said they had it for 9 months and loved it. He mentioned they had a Ford Explorer before this, but really loved this compared to the Ford. I posted the first Telly I saw at Costco gas station: see post #762 for that one (Sangria).

Why is the other one in the "wrong" lane? The gas tank is on the left hand side. That irks me so much. Now the driver has to bring the pump to the other side while possibly blocking where cars are supposed to leave. I wonder how many drivers know where to find that little triangle in the dashboard or maybe they don't care and just want to pump asap?!

That’s the scene at all Costco gas stations 😂. People always seem to be in a mad rush and so many people are stringing the pump line across their vehicles. I always just get in line on proper pump side and wait. You often see others who will back out of line and rush to a open pump on the wrong gas tank side, And when someone is on wrong side you can’t squeeze by them to get into the open pumps in front of them. If it wasn’t cheaper than other gas stations I wouldn’t even go there. Always a zoo.

I’ve never understood that either and can’t explain why people do that. I go out of my way to use the pump that will be on the same side as my gas filler. I don’t want to have to drag the hose over my car for one thing. I see people doing it the other way all the time.

Not sure I feel real comfortable throwing myself in front of the bus on this, but I hate to judge others based on circumstance at any given moment. Let me preface this by saying - Yes! I am guilty of this in my past. Many things in our lives create haste. We all face these moments where we do the things that are uncomfortable to make up time. Now, since I have done this in older cars and still done it carefully - I have to admit, I will be kicking my own ass if I ever do this with my new Telly!
The Costco Beast has created this scenario for the masses. Whether it is in the store or outside, the model drives people - in large quantities. The gas lane is just like every other scheme in play. Hence the one way approach, unlike most convenience gas station/marts, who allow traffic to flow either way. Costco even has signs everywhere telling you that these hoses will reach both side, as they are longer, etc. Here in lies the challenge. You pull up and are 6 cars back on your "proper side" of fueling. A vehicle or two enter and exit that Taboo Lane. Hmmm. Your pulse starts to rise a bit. That dang guy fueling in your lane is sooooo slow. Now his card isn't working. You know where I am going here. I don't mean to stereotype or judge. We adapt to our daily environment and become very reactionary. We all endeavor to protect our investments and property, just not perfectly.
Will I continue to follow the masses to Costco? Certainly! Will I continue to protect my Telly with a turret mounted 60cal on top? You know it!

😈

That's a good point. On the rare occasions I get gas at Smith's I can pull into the pumps from either direction, but not so at Costco. To be fair, many times when I'm at Costco to get gas the lines at all the pueblos (<< that's supposed say pumps, but auto-correct "helped" 😜 ) are very long, so I guess I can understand why someone might choose a pump that puts their filler on the wrong side if it's a line that has fewer cars and they are in a hurry. You really never know. But...as a general rule it's better, for the sake of traffic flow and your car's finish if nothing else, to try and use a pump for whichever side your filler is on. As an aside, back in the day when I had a Jag XJ6, it had filler caps on both sides so I had the best of both world and could pull in on either side.

It's going to take me awhile to get used to my filler hole being on the driver's side. I've been in the same car for 10 years, with the fuel door on the passenger side. It still feels awkward pulling up to the pump. So, one of these days when I'm tired, that'll probably be me. Sorry.

Should be easier to transition then. When you get close to the gas station, your tank is on the same side of where you get out of or just look at the fuel gauge where the arrow is pointing.

Because If you follow the @flyckfly indicator you will go to the wrong side of the pump

I have been driving the same car for 13 years. I still find myself looking at the arrow every time I go to the gas station!

I have not tried to pull the hose around but I can see why Costco is so hectic. Top Tier gas for the lowest costs would be worth the effort.

Now I know why I see long lines of cars blocking traffic waiting for pump when other pumps have much shorter lines. I think the long hoses are designed to be able to use both sides so people don’t have to wait in long lines, and especially blocking the driveway. I even saw one station put up signs remind people that the hoses can reach the far side. It’s not about rushing, it’s trying to make it easier for others getting to the pumps.

Now - THAT's a scary thought! If you follow the pointer, do you climb out the passenger door?
That might be worse than dragging the fuel hose! 😜

Sorry...not sorry. I do this ALMOST ALL THE TIME...why...because I can! :devilish:

...because I got better things to do than wait in line for gas. The Costco and Sam's fuel hoses have are long/extended enough that I can do this safely from the "wrong side" :p

You look like an idiot doing so but you do you. :)

Costco in Oregon (where laws don't allow you to pump your own gas in most counties) have this down to a science. Since there are attendants there pumping gas, they also direct traffic. They want people in the shortest line regardless of which side your tank is on. If you pull forward so that your tailgate is at or past the pump hose line, they can bring it around to the opposite side easily. They have three pumps in a row, so they pull three cars forward, all fill up, then once all three have filled and left, they bring three more up - the first in line pulling all the way up to the forward pump. It goes really fast and I don't miss the chaos of pumping my own gas at a Costco in Utah, with people not pulling all the way forward, trying to leapfrog, etc.
