Kia of Muncie did a great job of selling me on Telluride and their dealership. The Costco discount did not hurt their cause.

It’s been approximately 3 months since I ordered. I currently sit 23rd in line for a SXP at a dealership that is only allocated 1 or 2 SXP’s per month. If Kia doesn’t change their system, or I get extremely lucky, I’m most certainly looking at another year of waiting.

The Kia allocation system sucks.

I refuse to spend hours going through the spreadsheets and calling dealerships to see if allocated cars are available for a reasonable price.
I guess I’ll keep my order, maybe Kia will unscrew the pooch. Otherwise I think I’ll go check out the 2021 BMW’s, etc and if I find what I want Kia loses another customer for life.

I think you accidentally created two threads.

I think this is your problem, sorry 🥴

Yes, his original post was appropriately titled "So this is my problem..."

It's def. a big problem. I have been going through the sheets, and the VIN site and cold calling every dealer that might possibly be getting one within surrounding states. Either they are all way above MSRP or they're all accounted for. Maybe I'll get lucky, maybe I won't. Maybe someone at my dealer will give up and I'll score theirs (though I'm sure they're going to try to get a premium for it). In that case, we're planning to go as a family (wife and I along with the 3 kids) to the Chicago Auto Show this weekend and look at all our options.

We get calls daily, if not hourly. We currently tell people 6-8 Months or longer for a SX or SX-P. They still order. Why? Because at this point they are tired of the games, scams, and the daily fight to try to obtain a Telluride. We can only sell what KIA will give us. Keep in mind we are also probably one of the most aggressive deals you will find with the Costco Auto Program. So take California for example...Dealers still want a kings ransom for a Telluride. We are beating deals by $8,000 and that includes shipping. If saving money is not important and you can't wait then we are probably not the best match for someone. We have a pretty strong reputation on this forum and we intend to keep it that way by conducting business the only way we know how. I am still getting daily emails from people who have found out that what they thought they ordered, was never ordered. It is a crazy world right now. Until KIA can catch up it will be like this for sometime.

If my "boi" ordered 3 months ago and is 23 on the list of 2 per month, I might be 100 on that list. At that rate, I'll get mine in 50 months.

At what point do these "ordered units" get shelved as we spill over in to 2021 production?

I've owned over 50 cars in my 42 years of driving and there has never been a mainstream (non-specialty) car with this kind of demand and the inability to keep up with production.

It is uncharted territory for everyone including nearly all sales people who have never seen anything like it.

8 months from now is October.
2021 should be in full production by then.
Is there a cut off on fulfilling orders where some of us might be on the outside looking in?

Nothing has been communicated about 21s. Wild guess would be production starts sometime in August or September.

Good song

August production for 2021 is my SWAG too. It seems very possible that orders placed now may not be produced if the queue is too long.

Will a 2020 order that won’t be filled before the 2021 model year starts production be summarily cancelled or will we be given the option to change to a 2021.

Second question if we change to a 2021 order because our 2020 order was not filled do we start at the back of the line again?

KIA has not told us what will happen. We assume line will be same and order will become 2021 model. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the info. It’s obvious you are as frustrated as I am. I can wait 6 months but 12 or more is nuts.

It appears to be a good chance that my SXP order with Kia of Muncie in November. 2019 will end up a 2021 model. Unless Kia drastically changes it’s allotment policy or you find a way to get more than one SXP per month.

If I end up buying from another manufacturer I assume I get my down payment back.

Actually I have a family and a job. I don’t have time to chase a unicorn all over the Midwest.

I could easily pay the extra 10 k to get one quickly but I’d rather give my money to a company that wants my business and will work to earn it.
Exactly, so

It sounds like you need to go over to the Palisade then or a competitor. I have a job and family too but have no idea what that has to do with a car. I was lucky that I had a very good car and could wait for the car to arrive and got a good deal with Jason. If you can't wait n one, it's going to be tough to find one not spoken for without paying that 5-10K "market adjustment" that dealers are putting on it.

I literally just emailed this dealer asking the question of where I am in line for my SX AWD ordered in Nov., 2019. My Jaguar F Pace lease is up end of March so my fingers are tightly crossed. Although i haven't tossed the idea out of just renting an Enterprise car while I wait for my Telly.

Have you found a decent price on long term rentals? I'm seeing $1500+/mo where I am :(

As it stands for me this morning, I'm 3rd in line for my mid-September order.
