Hey I saw on tire rack.com. Several different optional sizes for the telly. A pic is attached. Has anyone tried these different sizes and how they drive? Looking at getting winter set and wanted to know if I should go 18" or 17" for winter. Any experience with these tire sizes would be great. Tks.

i used this when picking out my tires

you want to stay within 30" overall before it starts mess with speedo corrections if you go to a 31"-33" overall tire size the speedo will start to deviate from actual speed and rubbing issues. YMMV

I think 18 is the sweet spot for winter tires

I think 18" gives you more than enough tire. Going down to 17" would just look weird IMO and not really add much benefit.

Hi can you explain what you mean by staying within 30" Overall?

some go to 255 60 18 instead of 245 60 18 which is the OEM size on the 18's. It's "slightly taller" giving you a bit of speedo error with the overall size. The speedo is off by 1 mph on my car so this would actually fix it. If I found a tire in either size, I would go with this. I am actually buying winter tires soon for my 18 wheels.

18" is the most utilitarian.

20" looks amazing, but it's a hassle to drive. You are always on the look out for the smallest potholes, always nervous parking by the curb, etc... just too much to worry about.

30" overall diameter of the tire. Factory spec is 29" and some change weather you get the 18s or 20s

Notice that both tire sizes are the same diameter and those are factory wheels.

So a lot of the time you we'll hear people reference tires size by 32s or 33s and such this is what they mean. Once you start getting into the 30s range you will see loss of mpg and speedo deviation.

With 20s if you worried about crub rash you can always go up in size and same with potholes issue I went from a 245/50r20 to a 265/55r20 the tire is now wider the. The tire makes contact before the rim does. For the side wall it's not much but the ride is a bit smoother and don't need to worry about potholes as much

Have gone with smaller sizes in the winter before and they work great.

I wanted to get 265/60/18 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W but have concerns with any sort of rubbing and clearance with stock suspension. Have you had any issues?

Having played with spacers and lowering on my BMW's to get the proper "stance", The Telluride has so much extra room, I doubt an inch here or there isn't going to be a problem. Without crawling under my car, the only possible interferences would be on the inside of the tire if any. You are looking for a 15mm increase over stock, 7.5mm on both sides. Not much.

Having run the 245 60 18 winter tires for a few months, my speedo is now showing I'm running 2mph slower than what GPS shows.

I think you should be ok I didn't have any issues on my 20s

Thanks, I just watched the Telluride Overland build out and they used the 265/60/18 but with the 2” spacer lift. Good to hear you had no issues, much appreciated!

I saw somewhere that 17s May not fit on fronts due to brake calipers.

I forgot which site I went to but check the factory wheel tire size then look up over all dimensions. If you stay within about 2inchs of overall height and width you should be ok just check the overall size

EDIT: found it

Thanks, I found one as well… may be the same one. Height and width are under an inch .88 and .78 I believe. Circumference is +2.76”

I’m likely staying with the 20s as I don’t want to have to buy a new set of wheels as well. You went up from stock 245/50r20 to a 265/55r20 without any contact correct, not even on uneven terrain? Thanks again.

Although in those particular wildpeaks, I don’t believe they make the 265 in a 55 series

I feel like the stock 245 witdth is almost already too much for the 7.5 inch factory 20" rims. I couldn't imagine what a 265 with tire would look like on those wheels. Got any pictures?

I think bumping up from a 50 profile to a 55 profile would provide some improvement in ride quality at the expense of slight loss in acceleration and gas mileage.
