If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hey Stephen one more question. Is it ok to give the dealership the VIN number? They are going to want to know where it came from, can I mention failcat or no?
Sure thing.. would ask them to verify your name is attached to the VIN.. most dealers are aware of failcat by now.. but no need to mention them

This is the first paragraph in the box that comes up when you start failcat
"Please note that the information on this website is for your informational purpose only! (i.e.; don't reveal sources)"
The authors do not want you to reveal where you got the information (even though many dealers know about it)

Hi Stephen

Since you are/were with Kia, you might know about "dealer volume vs wait time". I posted the following on another thread but you might have insight into this.

Does Kia builds orders as 'FIRST IN, FIRST SERVED', at least for a given model in a given region? That is, if you order the same car model in the same region on the same day from Dealer A high volume vs dealer B mid volume, will your overall wait to delivery be different?

If it is 'FIRST IN, FIRST SERVED', dealer volume should not matter.

I spoke with a dealer he said they place the order in Kia's order queue. So the two orders from large dealer A and from medium dealer B will go in the same day and have literally the same place in Kia's queue.

How does 'allocation' play into this?

Thank you for clarifying. I will post your reply to the other thread.

It is FIFO(First In First Out) for that specific dealer not region.

The key is to know how many orders are infront of you; if you order, for the exact trim and drive you are ordering. Just as important is how many of that trim and drive(allocation) is the dealer receiving on average a month. Alot of people refer to failcat to see the data on how many the dealer you are considering ordering from has allocated in the specific trim you are considering.

Kia breaks down the FIFO by trim and drive. Example would be LX FWD is different than LX AWD so on and so forth. Package do not make a difference (such as Tow Package or Dune Brown Interior)

So the person you spoke to is unfortunately completely wrong.
It is why you see people who order in the same month from two different dealers have wildly different wait times.

Hope this helps.

EDIT** incase you want to dig a little deeper I break down kdealer/KFOS process which is what is happening behind the scenes after you place an order an are in the waiting queue.

Hey Stephen - This may sound like a dumb question, but are you able to clarify what “in transit” means? Asking because recently my dealer has been telling me my car is arriving each week, only to then turn around and tell me the day before I’m supposed to pick it up that it’s being pushed to the next week. The vehicle is confirmed to be built but it seems very misleading that they are telling me it’s “in transit” for several weeks when rather it seems it’s just sitting on the lot in Georgia.

In transit simply means it has left the factory and is en route to the dealer. If your dealer is not close to the factory than it may be delivered via train and then truck. When Train and then truck get involved is when you will see that on the dealers side it may show In Transit for weeks at a time. Whereas if dealer is close to the factory(going via truck only) and there is delays or pushbacks it is happening when Telluride is still showing at factory

Good evening! Is my vehicle still in transit? 5XYP5DHC0NG280705. Thank you!
