In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... So here’s a question I just thought of....since most of us here have ordered our Telluride, when it finally comes in and it’s time to buy/finance, what has everyone’s experience been if they have a car to trade in??!! Usually it’s part of a healthy negotiation. But under these circumstances where we just filled out an order form, can’t the dealership just offer us pennies for our trade in? Like....”it’s not like your not driving home the telluride you waited 3 months for”...or have people experienced fair valuation of a trade in?

I didn't even bother with the dealership, I just used Carvana. Took like 10 minutes from the time they showed up at the house, to them giving me a check and hauling the car away. Easiest thing ever. I would definitely at least get an offer from them before trying to negotiate with the dealer.

+3, but I went through Vroom. Carmax is another option.

If you purchased from a distant dealer and plan to drive your trade in there, there are few things you can do.
1. As stated above, go through the usual online places to get a quote.
2. Most dealers will give you a trade in value over the phone/email. It maybe a gross lowball, so try to negotiate with offer you got from #1
3. Take the value from #1, add $100 for rental cost. This will be your minimum sell price. Sell it private party(craigs, offerup, FB...).
Whichever option you choose, make sure you talk to your dealer about the trade in before you head there.

I agree with Carvana. Didn't complete the deal yet because my eta isnt until Jan. But the Carvana offer now is about 15-20% higher than what two local dealers offered. (Not buying from them because of over msrp markup).

Just keep in mind that a trade in offsets your sales tax due. But in my case, even paying sales tax on the full Telluride price is still a big difference.

So, logistically, if you’re using Carvana and not driving yourself to the dealership, are most of you relying on friends/spouses to pick up your T?

Yes. Will be driving 2.5 hours to the dealer in one car, and we'll be driving two home!

One way rental or if the dealer is out of state, most will pick you up from the airport.

The sales tax offset depends on the state. Here in Michigan, and there are a few others, the tax is paid on the full purchase price, disregarding any trade in.

Good point. It's actually odd that NJ takes a trade into consideration, being that we're taxed excessively on most things. But that's a vent for a different forum!

I used getmethevin.com to sell my 2017 Subaru WRX and it was a great experience. They paid $4k more than Carmax and $2200 more than Carvana (you can actually negotiate with them - not a take it or leave it). I just had to take pictures, take it to an inspection location (since they don’t have a facility nearby), and they sent me the check FedEx. I’d totally use them again. Sure, trading it in saves sales tax in my state but I likely got $5k+ more than the dealer would give me which exceeds any sales tax savings.

We also went with Carvana. They gave us $2300 more than the dealer offered. We purchased in Iowa and live in Florida. We did a one way rental and had a visit with our daughter and family, and a very pleasant and comfortable drive home.

I got an estimated Trade In price from the dealer based on a bunch of photos I sent them. CarMax offered $3K more which was higher than the KBB trade in valuation. I’d say key point to note is don’t settle for the trade in offered and see what CarMax, Carvana etc will offer you. Also remember to consider any increased Tax that you’ll have if you do not trade in due to the increased purchase price, if Tax is applicable in your State.
