Just got my dark moss EX. Love it. But I’m coming from an 08 pathfinder with zero tech. Anyway I’m just wondering what the UVO thing is exactly and is it something a tech newbie really needs to sign up for. Any thoughts or input appreciated.

So, after a year is there a way to remote start, and lock/unlock the vehicle? Does the UVO link with Kia access app to make that happen? It is a service that Kia provides free for the first year, after that you have to pay a monthly fee to continue using the service.

You can access the UVO service either through a web page Kia Owners Portal
or a dedicated phone app (iOS or Android)
Some of the functions of the UVO service are:
- remotely start your car (with the option to turn on heat/AC)
-remotely lock/unlock your doors
-Phone alerts if you leave your doors unlocked
-Schedule times for the car to remotely start (i.e. every morning 10 minutes before you leave for work)
-The ability to Geo tag your car's parked location, so you can find it using the UVO app built in map
In 2019 the UVO worked well enough, but it was not always dependable and sometimes would take forever to sign you into the phone app. Kia has released several updates to the app. (I can only speak for the iOS app) over the last year and the service has become faster and less buggy.
However, I personally feel being charged $22 a month for the service is wrong (I will not start ranting again on that subject)
The UVO service is the only way to remotely start the car (unless you have a dedicated auto starter installed)
I am not sure what functionality the UVO app would have without an active subscription. (you might still be able to receive recall notices, scheduled maintenance alerts)
