• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I’d like for my 2022 Telluride to not lock the doors when I walk away from it in my garage. Whether this is location based or just a key fob button combination, I don’t care. Just want to be able to get into MY car in MY garage without needing the key fob.

Unless you’ve installed an aftermarket module, the car is only ever going to lock if you tell it to. You can lock the car by pressing the button on the outside door handle, using the key fob, or using the Kia Access app. It’s not going to lock automatically.

The only time the car will ever lock itself is if the car was already locked, then you press the unlock button on the key fob but don’t open a door within 30 seconds. In that situation, it’ll automatically re-lock.

In the situation you’re describing, if you get out of the car and do nothing, it’ll remain unlocked (as long as the car is stock). Easy.

Well, I did buy it used so cannot 100% say there are no aftermarket parts. What I can say however is that the car locks when I walk away with no interaction from me whatsoever. In fact, I can walk past the locked car with the fob in my pocket and it will unlock as I approach and then re-lock as I pass by.
Elsewhere, on this forum I have found that possibly hitting the trunk lid button 4 times will toggle on/off this ‘feature’. Hitting the button 4 times does in fact cause some clicking and such and seems to have worked. Will continue testing.

If your car has the Shark Racing module installed, this is what it says to do:

You can disable and later enable the proximity locking and unlocking function using the following procedures. You can disable if the car is to go for repairs, or you are going to wash the car.

  • Disable/enable by short pressing trunk button on the remote 3 times after turning off ignition and stepping outside the car.

I went from a Honda Insight that did just that to a Telluride. Unfortunately, the Telluride doesn't have that feature. I regret that.

Exactly this. Didn't know it didn't have it. Really sucks. Not convenient to have to lock everytime. Should be a software option to auto-lock or not.

Shouldn't this be just a software upgrade. The computer controls everything. Just tell it to lock the vehicle when the fob is out of range. Come on Kia, this is a no brainer.
I have had recalls that were just software upgrades.

My 2017 GMC Acadia had this feature. You could set it to work or turn the feature off in settings. This is a no brainer for it to be programmed the same way on the KIA Telluride. If the car can send me a text after a minute or two when I walk away, it should be able to lock the doors.
