• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I am debating about getting the Extended warrenty as I am sure the dealer will paint a picture that the Kia warranty doesn't cover everything.

Well we leased but the final guy who pitches all that stuff said almost all kia dealers are offering lifetime on powertrain as long as the cars in your name. I dont know the specifics but maybe worth asking.

I never get them. They are a money maker for the dealer and the warranty company. If they didn't come out ahead, they wouldn't sell them. Never been bit by it yet.

Extended warranties only work if you don't use them for everything and you keep the car more then 6 years.

Lets say you get a 5 year extended warranty, extending everything from 5 to 10 years. You paid 2,000 dollars plus 100 deductible.

At 37 months, the head unit goes out, 3 grand to fix, you could get it fixed for 2100 dollars and everything after that is pretty much a 100 dollar fix.

But lets say that nothing goes wrong, except for little things like the door speaker. You will spend 100 bucks every time. 10 things get repaired over the last 5 years and you will spend 3000 dollars on a 1000 dollar problem.

I will get the extended warranty for 3 reasons. I will keep the car more then 10 years, I will only use the insurance for things that cost a lot of money, and it is a first production run. 200 dollars a year is worth not worrying about it.

Most Americans will not keep the car more then 6 years, 6 years or less it is not worth it.

If a head unit costs $3000..I'm going aftermarket for sure and get a much better unit.

It is not that easy since the head unit shows you a lot of other things including backup camera as an example; would be hard to find a ready compatible 3rd party head unit that can do all the things the main head unit does.

I plan to keep it close to 10 years so I'm looking at the ext warranty too.

Or if the vehicle has expensive subsystems that are more likely for failure like say the auto leveling shocks. But I'd want to see a copy of what it excludes for sure before thinking about buying... If it's REALLY everything, And you keep it a LONG time, it MIGHT be worth it.....

I can guarantee you that shocks are not going to be covered. Those are considered normal wear parts. You'll be lucky if it covers everything that the manufacturer bumper to bumper warranty covers.

To me I'm fine if it does not cover everything since I'm looking for coverage on high ticket items that usually do not go out. I had an Audi A4 and had extended warranty. My instrument cluster went out and that was $700+ and that was covered.

Ahhh yes.... true but not true. My Grand Cherokees air shocks ARE covered by mopars extended warranty and they are a 3-4K fix if the compressor goes bad... and they DO go bad. And that doesn’t include the shocks themselves which are also covered if the bag leaks or goes bad.....
The devil is in the details, and those details must be spelled out before buying. Not my 1st extended warranty rodeo.....and I’m already 1k over on repairs to me from what I paid for it when bought new...

About 3,000 is average price, you might get lucky with the after market.

But lets say airbag goes out, 1 grand a piece. Smart cruise control stops working? 1,500 dollars. Lane departure camera goes out? 1,800 dollars. The instrument cluster is going to set you back 1500 dollars. I could go on.

Well any of those parts fail in the next 10 years, probably not. But not having to worry about it?

Well, 1 breaks, you break even if it's after the manufacturers warranty. so you'll need 2 of these very rare to fail items to go to end up ahead...I'll take my chances.
