• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... What’s up with cruise control?

I just got my Telluride SXP Black Copper Nightfall. It’s fantastic.

Right now it’s like being on the US Enterprise but not knowing what all the buttons do. It’s trial by error. There’s a lot of “What does SPK do? Let’s find out.” “Whoops ok don’t do hit Set Phasers to Kill button again...”

Kidding aside it does have one weird quirk I’m trying to work out. When you use cruise control, if you try to change lanes, sometimes it flat out won’t move over. It’ll fight you and you have to muscle it over. Seriously.

It doesn’t want to budge even when no one is around. If another car is within fifty yards it’ll really battle you as you try to slide to the next lane. It’s fine most of the time but if it were a deer jumping in the road and you needed to move in a split second, it won’t do it. That’s probably not what they had in mind when they designed it.

I’m not sure yet how to disengage that computer feature. If there’s no way to disengage it, I’ll probably have to leave cruise control alone.

Anyone have any ideas? How do I disengage or bypass that function that fights lane changes when in cruise mode?

Yes, as @bruesjoh04 said, you need to use your blinker to disable the lane keep feature for the lane change. You can disable LKA and LFA as well if you like, but please use your blinker for the sake of everyone the road! 😀

If using turn signals is not an option just disable lane departure warning, lane keep assist and lane follow assist. Start swerving around lanes as you please.

Always a good idea to signal regardless

Um, you use your turn signal.
LOL I’ll try it! I doubt it.

If a child, deer, car or moose jumps in front my car suddenly, and I have to make a split second lane shift, I don’t think putting on the turn signal first is going to happen.

Next suggestion?

Yeah come to think about it the resistance is very minimal to break the LKA - You might have a bigger issue as you should not have to fight with it. You can easily override the LKA with one finger

Your main concern was changing lanes and you didn’t mention using your indicator. Using your turn signal is a best practice for changing lanes anyway, and using it will make you to not have to fight against the lane keeping.

It might give you a little resistance if you try to do something it doesn’t want you to do, but it isn’t that hard to override it. In an emergency situation (deer, kid, etc), you just steer the vehicle wherever you want it to go. It may be marginally more difficult than with the system off, but that’s how it is. Otherwise you can just not use the systems in the first place, but that defeats the point of having them.

This was my thought. I can break LKA very easily. No epic fight required.

You are missing out on one of the best features of SXP by not using the turn signal. Don't be a bmw driver. :)

I don't think I've ever used cruise and LKA at the same time. But you shouldn't have to fight your car to change lanes, with or without a turn signal. I have no problem breaking LKA.

Only if you are built like this are you allowed to say you can’t muster the strength to turn the wheel beyond LKA control.

Use a turn signal? Are you crazy? That's only there for decoration - at least here in New Mexico is seems. :p

LOL. I’ll have to take it to the dealer. I’m 6’5 240 lbs. There’s no way it can be done with a finger. The steering wheel literally shakes and the car shimmies before it will make a simple lane change when cruise control is on. Something is up. It causes at least a three to five second delay before it will allow a lane change, even with no other cars around. Trip to the dealer. $&?@!

I keep Lane Departure Warning off, that will eliminate the beeping and shakes. I do like Lane Keep Assist, you can remove your hands completely from the wheel momentarily when you like and it'll keep itself in the lane. Using turn signal eliminates slight grab to keep you in the lane, in an emergency or when changing lanes without turn signal I don't feel it takes much force to overcome the resistance.

I found in my hyundai at first it used to fight me when shifting lanes abruptly with no signal (someone cuts out in front of me etc..) just have to anticipate that it’s going to fight you and keep the wheel in the direction you wish for it to go. It is intended to assist you not take complete authority. If it does that then there is an underlying issue.

I’ll have to take it to the dealer.
When you show up this will be the thought process of the Kia employee:
  1. Customer buys car with LKA feature
  2. Customer returns to ask why the car has LKA feature.
  3. Customer wants me to fix LKA from functioning as intended?
