Who Is Paying These Wild Dealer Markups on Hyundai/Kia Crossovers?

Certainly not on the Palisade around me. I can go down the street 1 mile and get any combination I want today for under MSRP. Last I checked, they had 26 sitting on the lot at a fairly small dealer by me.

Today I just picked up an SX-P that someone decided not to receive at January, pre-increase MSRP.

What does it matter to anyone other than the buyer? It wouldn't increase supply enough to make a difference. People will pay what they want to pay to get it without waiting.

There is absolution no reason you shouldn’t pay over MSRP if you want it bad enough, even if it’s a “KIA”. It’s your money!

It is in the most popular market segment, with fantastic reviews across the boards, safe, luxurious, relatively economical and in limited supply compared to demand.

I’m amazed that some folks are waiting up to 7 months for their KT. That unbelievable! KIA must be something right!

And no, I paid under MSRP...

If there ever was a reason to be a Costco member.
MSRP minus Costco discount equals a very happy Tino!
Now if the darn thing would ever get built!

I think the issue is that Costco pricing does not always equal under MSRP. A concern I had is that if my dealership doesn't get a lot of these vehicles and is saying 6-8 months, then an order now may later turn into a "would you like a 2021 now instead with an increase of $XXXX?" communication.

I was speaking with an operations guy once. He said that he got in trouble when they made too many widgets and really got in trouble when they didn't make enough widgets.

That’s great! Same color/ options you were looking for?
I took over someone else order, still have to wait 3 months, if all goes well of course :)!!

Costco + Kia of Muncie = below MSRP..significantly.

Does Kia of Muncie ship? Too far away for me to drive back.
Rumor has it that Jason will personally drive the Telluride to your home, wash your dishes, fold your laundry and tuck you in at night!

Yes they are, but not all Costco dealerships. I'm curious what the wait is currently through Muncie. When I spoke with them, they were very responsive so the service is certainly there.

I just received an email from a dealer who swore he had the car I wanted at no markup. So I asked for an email confirmation of the price. After a week or so, here is my "at MSRP" response - $9995 over MSRP due to the "rarity" of the vehicle. I wondered why it sat on his lot for months:

Thank you for getting back to me. Unfortunately we will not let the SX with the Prestige Package go for MSRP. There is a $9,995 addendum for adjusted market value and rarity of the vehicle. Maybe you are better off looking at a Sorento as there are rebates available on those vehicles.

Yes, do ask about the wait. May be the best price in town, but if there are too many orders in front of you relative to their allocations, wait time could be too long. Stacyg found that out.

They did not over promise me I was told 3 to 4 month I was at 3 months but reading all the added wait times I read about on this site made me nervous. That was only reason i started to look for and go off spread sheet. I did get in before the crazy rush they may have now though. Never thought I even had a chance with the spread sheet! Lol

Only the CLOWNS are paying the ridiculous “market rate adjustment” prices for new Tellurides. Not sorry if that hurts your feelings 🤡🤡

Ahh yes, I really want a Telluride... but sure I'll settle for a Sorento?
