Why are the KIA Tellurides MIA?

I *think* your delivery time is based on local demand the allocation of your dealer (more sales = larger allocation) I ordered Feb 22nd I have a delivery date of April 4th
sx p/t Moss Green\Black

Impressive turn time. What dealer did you order with? Do you already have a VIN#?

If you “ordered” on Feb 22, then the SX P/T they are delivering on April 4th was from their inbound inventory, not a factory order. KFOS last day in February was the 17th, so your order would not go into KFOS until March 15-17. My order went into KFOS in February, and my ETA is April 8th. I placed my original order on December 2nd.

If the dealer led you to believe he was “ordering” your Telluride, I would be very careful. They knew this unit was already in the system, and it may be what you want, or may be “close” to your order, and they will try to convince you someone made a mistake. If they are willing to sell a SX P/T at MSRP and you like it, congratulations!

But watch out for the sucker punch.

You definitely found a high volume dealer. So far in March, in 11 days, they have had 11 SX Prestige VIN's assigned. Lately, almost half of their VINs show to be SX Prestige.

@StephenCantrelle , @Jason Fox, how is this ratio possible? Talk about unbalanced allocation.

It's what is orderd. 75% or so ordering SXP's

They won't lose money. For every person that orders and doesn't end up wanting to wait 6 months...that dealer now has a car that can be sold within days of arriving at the dealership for some lucky person that stumbles across it and didn't have to go through the pain of ordering. They have more buyers than they do have vehicles to sell.
Nailed it, I got a few calls when buyers dropped out of factory ordered cars. One of them an exact match to my order - Minus the accessories. It really is best to order and be the guy that drops out rather than thinking your going to get lucky or supply will increase.

I was on the fence when delivery times where thought to be 2 - 2.5 months. Placed order and took over 5 months. Be smart - place an order.

I was told all of their incoming units were already presold and it would be at least 3 months, but then a few weeks later received the phone call that mine was on its way with an eta.
Yesterday, the salesperson confirmed the eta and sent me a picture of the window sticker with my name on it.

So I must be very lucky. The sales person was careful to ask about packages and features when I "ordered" that had to be installed when the car was built. They could add the accessories later at the dearlership. which makes sense to me.

so I "ordered" SX with Prestige and Towing, Moss Green with Black, which is not the most common color combination,

They will be adding the carpet floor mats, bumper protection, etc. when it arrives. I sent the info from the KIA web site with the estimated total.
I checked the windows stickers of others for this dealership, most of them don't have extra accessories, well except for wheel locks $60.00
which mine also has.

but I am not going to complain about a $60.00 accessories on a 48k car.

Way to go, sir! Indeed, sounds like you hit the gold mine. Cannot believe how many SX Prestige models I25 Kia is getting. Congratulations 😁

Just a follow up. I finally saw a Kia in Charleston. The black SX. I couldn’t help but stare. Almost wanted to get out and ask the guy about it. I’ve finally reached 4. May have a better chance of seeing a shooting star in a thunderstorm

@Dougb44. I also ordered a SX-P from the same dealership. I placed my order on 3/2 and received notification on 3/17, that my order was filled. Did they tell you when your order was filled? And if so, how long between when your order was filled and when you received a VIN? Just trying to gauge when I can except a VIN to be created and an ETA to go along with it. Thanks.

I’m new here. Seriously, why does there seem to be no supply for one of the highest rated midsized for the year. How does the Kia dealerships right outside the factory in Westpoint GA, not have inventory. Quick side note, would it be cheaper to buy a car from a dealership in proximity to where they were made- I feel like they would have hardly any fees. Quicker side note- I’m ready to trade and sale my two older Subaru’s for one of these, which is basically like selling my two ....

Like any manufacturer coming out with a new product, they have to make demand forecasts. Such forecasts include estimates on how many similar models they have sold in the past, the size of the overall market, prior success on new models, etc. Managers tend to be a little cautious. Estimate too high and you "help" the company lose a lot of money, and you probably lose your job too. Estimate too low and sure some profits are lost, but basically you are a HERO as you over delivered. Careers are built on such decisions.

From these forecasts, they invest in an appropriate size production facilities, make purchasing agreements with suppliers, and so on. Estimate too high, and you are saddled with too many workers (that you spend a lot of money training, and then turn around and lay off - not good!). Estimate too low, and you will have a supply problem, but you will be making plenty of money as you are at or above the original plan.

Its clearly not an exact science. If you want a historical comparison, see how Ford did with the Edsel. That was the other end of the spectrum.

Having been in on such planning, it started with a sales forecast, and an estimate of margin (profit). From these forecasts, we built a manufacturing and supply plan: where are we going to build the car, how many employees will we need to hire, a training plan, capital investment plan, construction permits, etc. While you are implementing these plans, the market changes, up and down.

So the model has exceeded KIA's wildest dreams. They are making a lot of money, and they will be expanding their factory and working with suppliers for them to ramp up production.

Amazing! That was wonderful insight. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Never knew about the Ford Edsel. Good lesson for future brands from a failed idea

we ordered in February... it is now close to June and the factory has yet to pick up the order from the dealer, pretty disheartening ! . at least im in no rush so i will see how long it will take , my question.... ? will we end up with a 2020 or a 2021 ???? since the deal and order were placed in 2020 .......
