• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Window trim flaking - Exp NF trim flaking off

Well I finally got a reponse from Kia Customer Care. They wont fix it! They said its an environmental issue. Really??? A car wash??? Clearly they are trying to dodge this issue. I ran my MDX through that car wash for 10 years without issue. This Telluride trim is all stained and blotchy now. Now way to fix it. It's clear Kia's design validation process is non existent when it comes to the plating on this trim, and their support for an issue like this in non existent as well. Guess I will move up the food chain on this one. Thanks Kia !!!!!

Sorry to hear that they aren’t standing behind their defects!! I would be so livid. Anyway to escalate it to someone else?

Wanted to ask on here if anyone has had any issues with the trim around their windows. Have a 2021 Ebony Black EXP NF. Picked it up June 26, have a little over 300 miles. It looks like some of the finish has flaked off. I’m Kind of OCD so I went over the entire vehicle pretty well before taking delivery. Didn’t notice it then. Scheduled PPF and ceramic the day after, so have kept mileage to a minimum. I’ve hand washed it one time and has been parked in the garage since. Was getting ready to take it to have the ppf and coating put on and noticed it. If anyone else has had this happen, I’m curious what to expect when I take it to the local dealer. Thanks

Edit. I guess I’m not as OCD as I thought. Just read through a pretty wild thread about defects and woah.
Yes, had issue on my 2021 Black Nightfall Edition SX. Bought in May, noticed flaking in August. Took to dealer. They ordered new trim and replaced at no charge.

are you using a touch less one?

Touchless or the old fashion car wash, scouring cleaner. This shouldn't happen either way.
Indeed!

They fixed mine. No questions.
I think the issue is that they use the non-Nightfall trim and spray a tint over it for the Nightfall version. If the surface is not sprayed / prepped with an adhesive promoter, you get flaking.

Yes! I thought I was going crazy. Our 2021 Black Copper NFE is suffering the same fate. We have had the car just over a year. All trim around windows is peeling. In some spots it looks like when the windows were cleaned and perhaps there was overspray, it took off the finish. The car has only been hand washed and kept in pristine condition. Has anyone found out anything from Kia about this?

Well buddy... mayb just find a good hand carwash..u should be fine... between my neighbor that wash cars n a couple of hand wash places i guess ill be fine as well.. .
I don't know about that. My car has only been hand washed and immediately dried and it has the same problem.

Has this happened to anyone after applying ceramic coating? Curious if that will help to prevent...

Wow.. im sorry to hear that..damn!! I dunno but my neighbor put some type of wax coating on there he said it should protect it through the winter... i didnt even know he put it on there... so maybe some people will have some problems and many may not...either way.. again im sorry to hear about that i hope it can get taken care of... wow!

They use very caustic cleaners. Must be causing the trim problems, it shouldn’t happen but it did. I would talk to your local service manager nicely and try to get this problem resolved.
Went through all the hoops and Kia siad they wouldn't cover it. Now I have a complaint in with BBB AUTO LINE. We shall see if we can work out a solution. Trim which cannot withstand car wash soap of ANY kind is simply the result of poor design and lack of real world validation. This is the only issue I have had with this vehicle. The rest is perfect.

In this thread, they say it's covered under warranty ????

just saw a NF 2022 telluride in the parking lot of the hotel im staying at now and yup the window trim is flaking off! now im kinda turn off by it and thinking probably cancelling my order

I think I will have the trim wrapped and call it a day. It will be easier to look at and won't cost big money. KIA needs to address this issue. Just a shame.

They definitely need to have this issue address. Why don’t they just spend the extra time and paint it.😳

The bronze tint on the trim was a knockout look for this vehicle. Sad that is can't withstand NORMAL environments. I will soon see what they will do for me......or won't.....
