Worse case scenario has happened

Here is all the paperwork that was given to me along with a copy of my $500 receipt. I asked Marcus (sales guy) if there was anything more and he said no. Mid way through I called for a Vin and he also said nothing was in the chute yet.

Should have been a computer print out of the KFOS entry... I see issues here.

Agreed.
Here's an example of what the order sheet looks like. The highlighted code at the top is your Kdealer order number and your proof that it was submitted through the system.

Well I can say I never received that paperwork. It was my first time customizing a new car let alone with Kia so went in less informed then I should. I just never thought a dealership would screw a paying customer like I was. Not that hard to just put in the correct order.

How long does it take for a customer to get a copy of their order or do they get it right away?

The same thing happened to me.....no copy of the K dealer order. I had to deposit $1000.

Okay so I'm still heated as I just received the news within the last hour and needed all you people to help me sort this out. Here's my story:

I ordered my Telluride back in December 19, 2019 with one of my local dealership. White exterior with butterscotch interior. SX non- prestige with tow package, illuminated scoff plates, and rear applique. Put $500 down and walked out with a copy of the build and order number.

Received an update from the dealership about a month ago that my Telluride would be arriving toward the end of March.

Fast forward to today and the sales guy called me in an excited state saying that my Telluride had arrived this morning. While still talki g with excited exuberance, he says there has been a change to my interior. I snap out of my own excitement and tells him to back up the conversation.

He tells me that Kia has discontinued the butterscotch interior and instead gave me espresso, which I find it ugly (brown everywhere).

I asked him why he didn't call me when they found out butterscotch was discontinued. He didn't have an answer. I was steaming red and couldn't stand one more second with that inept sales guy.

After calming down, I decided to do my own little investigation as I did not believe that Kia just suddenly discontinued butterscotch. I went to Kia's website and did my Telluride build and lo and behold, there's my butterscotch interior with exactly the same build as I did with the dealership.

I called Kia and spoke with consumer affair and opened a case file. The nice lady told me as far as she knows, the butterscotch was not discontinued and she also did the same build while I was on the phone with her. The nice lady told me she would be calling the dealership to find out what actually happened.

This was supposed to be a surprise for my wife's birthday, which was next week. I planned it out so it would be delivered as close as possible to her birthday. So now I'll have to wait another 3 to 4 months because someone couldn't figure out how to put in an order. What's worse was that the sales guy lied about the whole thing and tried pawing it off on Kia.

I go get my $500 back and never going back to that dealership.

Getting heated again just thinking about it.

You've been played by a dealer sales guy. i thought it was so obvious, and everyone know this, especially those who are on forum. This trick aka "sucker punch" is nothing new and was posted several times on forum and people warned about this tactic.
This is why I don't trust dealers, and the only way to buy what you need is to see the car on the lot. Until that happens (when supply will catch with demand) I won't be buying a Telluride. Might even wait for a hybrid version facelift in 2022 or so, as their powertrain is worst among competition MPG wise and dynamics wise too. smh.

Ok, similar problem here. I'm not going to say this is a "worst case scenario" (I can think of plenty of other bigger problems right now.)

My dealer says my vehicle will be here tomorrow! 😁 . BUT, I ordered a GRAY interior, and he said it's BLACK. Otherwise, it's the exact vehicle I requested. He is admitting it was his mistake. Do I accept his apology and get a great vehicle tomorrow, or do I make a big deal out of it and wait another 2-3 months. While I'd prefer Gray interior, I really don't think Black is the end of the world..

Any opinions?

I’d take it! I can certainly understand OP not wanting Espresso. It’s the 💩 emoji of interiors but black is great. You’ll save on leather cleaner!

I'll ask for a huge discount if I were you. I wouldn't have mind if it was black. But I had black interior in so many cars that I'm sick of it and so is my wife. Why spend your hard earned money on something you didn't want.

I’d go for it. I wanted Dune interior but my dealer called and said they had an otherwise exact model I wanted four weeks earlier but with black interior. I took it and I’m loving it right now instead of still waiting for the dune.

Didn't have a single problem ordering from my dealer, they were transparent the entire time, I left there after making my order with the order print out showing exactly what was ordered. The following month when they were received their allocation, they saw that they had enough to enter mine and it was entered. They called me to advise me of it and gave me the KFOS info. The talked with me the same day that I saw my car on the vin lookup and notified me of the VIN. Kept me in the loop about delivery time changes etc... No up selling later either. Picked mine up today, exactly as I had ordered it. Are there bad apples, sure there are. Are there also good dealers out there? Yup, for the most part it is only the poor ones that you hear about. In all of my car buying years, I have never had one try to hood wink me. I have had one who didn't know his product as well as I did and kept telling me that what I was asking for on a vehicle was not an option but was standard (I knew better), when the vehicle I had ordered showed up and the sticker showed that it was an option and they tried to charge me extra for it, I took the salesman and the GM to task over it, after the GM heard my side of the story and saw my paperwork (had the sales guy state in writing that what I was asking for was standard) he just said a few words to the salesman and gave me the vehicle without having to pay for the option that was installed... Look at some of the good dealers that people have had good experiences with and try them.

Of course take it - that's much better than wait 2-3 months and then again no guarantee they won't trick you again. Just know that it wasn't really his "mistake" lol. They tell it to everyone - that's part of the trick.

@wcarlson40 what did you order? too funny because I ordered one with BLACK interior and they accidentally ordered one with GREY interior. SX-P w/ tow. Gravity Gray with Black interior (but again, they ordered gray). Just thought it would be funny if we could swap :)

Hah, no, I ordered an EX because I wanted the 8 passenger bench

New to this forum, its great. Been in the car rental business most of my life remember when Hyundai , Daewoo and Kia came onto the scene and in our fleets, obviously the Daewoo deal didn't work out, the others from a quality /reliability standpoint have continued to improve even surpassing domestic brands years ago.
The Telluride SX at MSRP is a good value , locally in Florida dealers are asking and getting 3 or 4K above MSRP , this is not a good value, the whole leave a 1K deposit we will get you one when we can also leaves a bad taste .
Kia if supply does not soon catch up to demand will face very stiff competition from its cousin Genesis , coming summer 2020 GV80 is a beast, cost about what Kia dealers are raping everyone on right now for a SX at 3K over MSRP. There are videos on youtube of GV80 in south beach , it is a beautiful vehicle packed with features.
Genesis unseated Lexus a 5 time in a row winner as JD Powers most reliable this year, I think the GV80 will be a better value if things stay the same . Best wishes to everyone

GV80 is definitely a nice option but cost is significantly higher. Base model after destination charge is just shy of 50k then jumps 3k for a base AWD and is loaded up at 73k without any port installed options. so loaded to loaded is still a 26k difference.. I would not say it is the same cost

I agree - this is truly the worst case scenario. And it has happened.
