What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

I ordered an SXP nightfall the beginning of January at MSRP. The dealer is 6 hours away (I’m flying upstate to pickup the car). I do not have an ETA yet, but I just though to myself ...

WHAT IF HE CHANGES THE PRICE BY OTHER FEES, THE DAY I ARRIVE TO PICKUP THE CAR ?
What documents should I request in order to be guaranteed that the price will not change?
I gave a $500 deposit. I received a document called PURCHASE TRANSACTION, the options I ordered are not itemized and my $500 deposit is not clearly written, it just says $10,000 down to finance car.
The only simple way to make sure is ask them...is their a detailing fee, VIN etching fee, pulse brake fee etc. Name these typical things by name instead of saying are their any mandatory fees you guys have at this dealership.

You can also start the convo by saying, just to confirm there will be no additional fees added on with the exception of a document fee (I believe NY state has a max value for this).

You can look up the dealer name in the good or bad dealers thread on these forums to see if they come up good, bad, or indifferent.

Good luck!

I order over the phone, but with a receipt of my deposit he provide a screenshot of the MSRP sheet from the Kia website with the package / options I choose along with it in the email.

I received a screenshot of a purchase Transaction with a Northtown logo at the top.
I will keep confirming with the salesman that there will be no additional fees

That dealer is 20 minutes from me. I think they are good and they had told me they don't charge over MSRP....so, you should be good. I ended up going with a dealer outside Cleveland (Halleen)...only bcuz they had one due in like I was looking for, within 3 weeks. They also do not charge over MSRP.

Not gonna happen,, ever..
Ever... And look at new Consumer Reports for March. Telluride still rates as best Mid-size SUV and best SUV under $45k. Scores 97 points. Palisade scores 85 points, a whopping 12 points lower. You aren't going to get 6k under MSRP for a new SX-P with ratings still crushing the competition. At least not a new vehicle.

Again, y’all are new here. The post is two years old, posted before anyone knew what the market for this vehicle was going to be.

I have one in order for MSRP, and given the current market for the vehicle, I’m OK with that.
Sorry, we ALL knew what the market for the vehicle was going to be. That's why we all got such a great laugh at your post!

So tell us again how close to 6k UNDER MSRP you got? 😂😂

Thanks for the reply! So the dealer has a good rep... that does make me feel less anxious.😅

I ordered and received my Wolf Gray Nightfall for MSRP, no dealer "adds" at all. Nice, clean transactions. They pushed back a bit, but if you're ordering, what leverage do they have? I'll just go to the next dealership. Tell them if they want the unit sale, they can have it, if not, move on.

And what was your timeframe for this whole transaction? Can you share when you initiated and when you received?

Sure, sorry - that information would have been helpful.

I ordered it at the end of September and received it right after the new year. I was in no rush, since I was going out of the country, but they had told me not to expect it before the end of November or beginning of December. It ended up being about a month late. I ordered it with a $1000 deposit. The initial transaction was handled through the phone and over the internet. (They changed my AmEx for the deposit). I had already been to the dealership, so it wasn't a completely "e-transaction." They tried to sell me on the "adds" like paint protection, etc, and I hard no'd it all. They also started at an 8k premium over sticker. I gently, but firmly, declined, telling them I was ordering a unit, in no rush, and they either wanted the sale or not. They sent me a "short sheet" with the options and price (I ended up getting a few kia accessories), I signed it and they put it in. The salesman was great, communicated throughout the transaction, and once a VIN was assigned to my order, sent me the window sticker, etc.

Thanks for that info -- very helpful!

So you did actually go through an established dealership? If not, what was the number you called?

I have a $500 refundable deposit down on an SX+Nightfall+Prestige in Wolf Gray. That deposit is holding this particular unit (which was given to me to test-drive overnight -- nice gesture, I appreciated it) until 3rd week of March for me as I navigate a new job offer and see if it comes to fruition or not. I went into the dealership thinking there'd be no way I could find what I'm looking for right away and was thinking of a custom order. The market adjustment on this is $4k, though, and I'd be happier to wait a bit of time and not have to pay that. I inquired, though, at a few other dealerships, and one actually told me they were upcharging $14995. Un-f*$%king-believable.

I went through a local dealership here in the Dallas-Ft Worth area, but after calling around and inquiring through AmEx autos (which routes you to dealership internet departments), it was clear I could get any of the dealerships to do the same thing if I pushed them. In fact one of them had a "$150 off MSRP" offer on the unit that was generic for all lead inquiries, but I found them after I had already ordered and the dealership was a bit further from me, so I didn't fret.

I'd honestly just call up any of the dealerships and say you want to place a custom order, you'll only pay MSRP, no BS, and ask them if they're game. In the end, don't let them trick you into saying they have "limits on units" etc. They want that sale.

It's a personal decision, but personally, 4k just to "have it now" is a hefty premium. I got an SX Nightfall Prestige as well, and love the vehicle, but I was happy with waiting a few months for its fulfillment.

On another note, I'm sure you're not driving up a storm, but I'd be pretty annoyed to purchase a car at a 4k premium after someone had driven it around for a month and put a bunch of miles on it. (Not saying you're doing anything wrong, but that tells me maybe the demand is catching up to the supply on these things). My dealership didn't even have one for me to look at or test drive in my trim when I went.

Thanks for your insights. Just to clarify, I only test drove the unit for one night. It's back at the dealership, though definitely unlikely to stay undriven by others while I settle my situation. The dealership happened to have two of the exact same specs on different VINs so the owner felt as though it was okay to let me hold it for a little while. But that could just have been a line. I, too, am a little piqued with a market adjustment especially when I am not fully desperate to be in the vehicle at this present moment. I think I'm going to try to make it happen like you did.

Last week, I sat down with Failcat, a charged cell phone, and dozens of dealer browser tabs. This Saturday, I am making the journey to Halleen Kia in Sandusky, Ohio to pick up my new Wolf Gray EX AWD with the NightFall and Premium packages.

I had grown discouraged because all the dealers I called from Maryland to North Carolina charged thousands of dollars for "market premium" or for "dealer-installed accessories". When I called Halleen, they had exactly what I was looking for en route to the dealership AND it wasn't already spoken for (in fact, they had 3 of the same trim level/color/package combos coming in). They are charging MSRP, Title/License Fee ($115), Processing/Document Fee ($300) and tax. Very straightforward.

Although I am scared like the dickens to drive 9 hours to make a transaction like this, I have seen positive reviews of the dealership on this forum. I will update afterwards and share the experience!

It'll be fine! I'm planning to drive a little over 3 hours, to Halleen Kia North Olmsted location, to pick up my Wolf Gray SX AWD Prestige/Nightfall.
Same deal...had one coming in...paying MSRP + normal fees. Can't wait! Congrats on your new ride!!

Was this a 2020 or 2021? That seems pretty remarkable for the newest model, unless they’re just not selling well in Canada.
