Dog owners, I need your advice and perhaps some specific recommendations:

I'll be adding one, possibly two, Belgian Malinois "Maligator" pups to my life in the next week or so.

What do y'all use to line the cargo bed areas. Should I cover the 2nd row Nappa leather seats with some material that's more puppy teeth proof than Nappa leather? :ROFLMAO:

This adorable breed of do-it-all dogs have been described by some owners as "German Shepards on methamphetamines" and I just want to give my Telly's interior a fighting chance against the legendary bite force of these little lovelies :)

Here's some preliminary photos of "Pink collar". Still trying to figure out a name for this girl, maybe Maggie or Bella or something easy and two syllables or less. Any input from y'all is appreciated:

Cute dog; extremely loyal and smart. You should check out Canvasback cargo liners. They fit great and have plenty of color options. If you plan on buying these; there is quite a long lead time (I think they’re making these on order demand). I ordered my set and it took nearly 3 weeks for them to arrive.

I keep hearing great things about Canvasback liners. I've also heard about the on-demand ordering, which makes sense business-wise.

I'll probably get them and just wait my turn. Waiting 3 months to get my order into KFOS will make this seem like a piece of cake, hopefully.

The problem areas I can see are the polymer sides, but I really don't care if those get beat up. I can picture the pup or pups looking at the Nappa leather seats like a giant rawhide treat or an enormous pig ear.

If I end up not getting a WT with the center hump protection, I'll have to DIY fabricate something that just protects the center strip area and doesn't move around. Maybe something as simple as a folded up towel for temporary things and cut up some pieces of the OEM Carpeted Floor mats or the ToughPro Cargo Mat I'm not using.

I asked ToughPro several months ago if they could cut me a piece of material or two pieces that would protect the 2nd row hump as well as the strip between the Captains Chairs but that conversation went nowhere.

I don't really want to buy a whole WT 3rd row liner just to cover the center "aisle" because the 3rd row stays down for the time being.

@DarkMossJustin
Have you thought about one of those dog barriers to keep them from getting to the back of second row seats? That combined with good cargo area protection could work. Those dogs look awesome. I’ve never heard of that bread before. I imagine a good name would be Dune since you mention dune to the moon lots lol. Or from reading your posts another good name would be tux after your fav tuxmat 😉 😂

I have a Weathertech cargo liner, but it only covers the floor and the dogs would easily chew it. There are a few brands to look at if you want full coverage including the seat backs:

Canvasback

Cover King

Covercraft

With any of these I'm not sure how waterproof they are (or chew-proof) but you should be able to find something that covers the backs of the second row as well as the sides.

I assume you have experience training dogs? Simple, let the dog(s) know the seats are off limits. A dog as smart as the Malinois should easily learn these kinds of limits.
I think the biggest worry with dogs in the car is hair and drool.

How ‘bout this? If one of the boy pups becomes available, we can talk Dune or Tux?

“Girl Named Tux” is the song Johnny Cash didn’t record but that would be a hell of a song, no? 😂

I’m considering all options at this point. Yeah maybe a dog barrier too?

Thank you for the great ideas ;)

Yes, but this will be first time training the amazing Malinois, which are a slightly different breed than German Shepards, Rottweilers, Cocker Spaniels, etc.

I’ll be working closely with the breeder and the larger Maligator training community and a neighbor who trained them in the armed services. E-collar training seems to be a good bet and I want them to learn the basic commands plus some Maligator-specific commands with arm/hand gestures & body position and without having to raise my voice. We’ll mostly be working together outside the car but maybe i can incorporate the Telly into the routine because I’ll have to do it eventually.

Malinois are amazing dogs and I’m not worried about the hair and drool on the carpeting as much as I am the leather. I ❤️ dogs and my car is their car too ;)

Thank you for the reply 👍

Well then for a girl only you’ll have to call her Telly!!

We were looking to get a cane corso to protect our property but they are not good outside dogs(living outside) so the wife has gone for a totally different style dog. a blue Merle Australian Shepard. I know some people use a kennel but that’s a debatable topic for inside a vehicle.

Crates are the safest for dogs in a car. They will also help protect your car. Hope you know about the breed. They need a job and don't always make the best family pets, depending on their prey drive. They are the preferred breed for K-9 work due to their drive and trainability. Beautiful pups!

Thank you for the great advice and recommendations @TN Gal: (y)

I've been into this breed for a while, they will have jobs, so we'll be working closely the breeder, Maligator trainers, and yes, even a K-9 trainer for our local SWAT.

I'm leaving my home state of California for lots of land in South Dakota and Maligators are supposedly great all-purpose dogs that can be great ranch dogs. They can defend, retrieve, guard, and be excellent with people with the proper training.

I'm not intending them to be tactical fur missiles, but if any coyote or other varmint or predator wants to raid the innocent chickens or threaten any animals/pets on my starter ranch, I'd like to see the pink collared female accelerate to top speed in a few shakes of a lamb's tail and defend my animals and handle the situation like they learned and practiced in training.

Will look into some Crates :)

Do you have the blue Merle Australian Shepard already? 🐶

On order for next litter of pups. I haven’t seen it listed on KFOS but I’ve been guaranteed a pick in next litter with $500 deposit.

Hahahahaha, so if the pups are not on KFOS, our orders remain theoretical, but once KFOS finally picks up our orders, the pups become real? 🐶

I wonder if @StephenCantrelle will be able to help us with those updated ETAs ;)

Remember, the $500 deposit only gets you in line for the opportunity to get a pick a top-trim pup in the next litter-allocation. They might not come with all the options we might want, so perhaps we might want to consider ordering the food, rawhides, chew toys, and other good stuff not on the sticker, in order to defend our Tellurides from our lovable monsters and feed our beasts once we have some idea of when we'll finally take delivery !! :ROFLMAO:

🤣 😆
There’s not much difference between ordering a custom dog than ordering a custom telluride. only certain colours available each litter so sometimes it’s a couple litters to get your preferred colour (sound familiar 😂)

I've had German Shepherds (working line) all my life until now when I have two mixed breed rescues. South Dakota sounds like a perfect place for your pups. My most recent GSD (pic in profile) was my buddy. I always thought she was kinda laid back until I saw her in action one day. I ran across a big snake while gardening then a fur missile launched herself, gave that snake a couple of shakes and poof, that bugger was dead. I was so surprised and impressed, I just sat on the ground and loved her all over. I miss her to this day, she lived until she was 12. Her name was Gunner, as suggested by my father-in-law, Lt. Col. USMC. Your maligators will do the same for your livestock. They are herders and protectors by instinct and breeding. Keep me posted on your puppers.

I learned about crates and dogs in a vehicle from a very good friend who used to breed and show Irish Setters. She had her van set up to transport several dogs at a time and showed me how easy it was to take out one dog at a time under control. The crates were anchored with tie downs and provided great safety for the pups and kept them from damaging her car. BTW, Irish Setters are beautiful loving dogs but they would probably lick to death any intruders.

Congrats on the puppy. I am enjoying my six month old Labradoodle. I have had my Kia for a little over a week now.
I got Weathertech seat covers for the rear captain's chairs. The tan is not the same as Dune, but it is a car cover with a purpose. It was easy to put on. I bought two, with one in the cargo bin in back to use when my friend's dog is riding.
For the cargo I go Canvasback. Easy to install. Not as heavy duty as the rubber liners, but seem mess resistant. I like that they work with 3rd row up or down, cover the backs of the captain's chairs, and can still access the cargo bin
