• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Trailer Hitch

Hey guys, so I am planning on harassing KIA customer service about this issue. I would love you if you guys could come up with a few points that needs to be addressed.
1.) Tow package includes 7 pin?
2.) Plans on offering an dealer install 7 pin?
3.) Tongue weight is 350# or 500#?

Anything else. Might as well harass for everything.

While I too agree that it should have a 7 pin connection, the question needs to be asked is if you have something heavy enough to need trailer braking Etc, is the Telluride really the right vehicle overall? You better have always more than you need when you are Towing relatively heavy things, and the uni body primarily front wheel drive setup of this vehicle just isn't really designed for reasonably heavy weights....
Not saying it can't do it just saying how comfortable will you be behind the wheel with something pretty heavy pushing you behind you....

Plan on offereing self-leveling suspension parts to add on non prestige trims.

Unfortunately harrass in the dealer won't get anywhere on these. If you had engineering contacts that would be a different story.

I have a case specialist contact from kia corporate and willing to ask for an engineer.

So a few problems.

1.) The less able the vehicle towing the MORE you need a trailer brake. The pushing can be stopped with a trailer brake.
2.) The kia telluride AWD is not a primarily front wheel drive setup. The older Kia's used to be, but the Telluride is a active torque vectoring car. So it changes the torque depending on what it is doing. Turn on the dash indicator on wheel power to see how it works. Only for short periods do you get front wheel drive only.

Another question , Is the radiator / transmission cooler capable of keeping temperatures down under light to medium towing conditions ?
I am feeling better about towing my boat knowing it is well under the ratings and also has minimal wind drag . I think the transmission is my only real concern .
I have a bluetooth OBDII dongle and the App to go with it to monitor temps . If it has trouble cooling , I will install an aux. fin cooler in front of the rad.

Does anyone know of where I can order a hitch for the Telly? Bought mine last week and dealer says they don't have them in stock and can't find one. I ordered one from genuinekiaparts.com and after not hearing anything for 3 days I contacted them and they say they don't have one in stock. etrailer said they won't have one until late summer. Please help! I want to pull my boat to the lake on Memorial Day!

I just got word from my dealer that they have sent a Telluride over to a custom fabricator to look at it . I would be OK with the custom hitch but how do you finish it off without the molded trim panel from Kia ?
Cutting the plastic might look good IF its done right . If not I guess ordering the proper trim piece when it becomes more redily available might be an option
Thoughts ?
I was hesitant at first , but after seeing the quality of work from this shop I quickly changed my opinion

Ok, I totally get that Kia made an oversight in not giving this pretty mini-van a 7pin harness, but can't you install a 4-7pin kit from Amazon for under a $100?

The 4 to 7 pin adapter will only send the same 4 wire signals across, which will be left turn/brake, right turn/brake, running lights and ground. You would not be able to run brakes for a trailer through this adapter.

A 7 pin harness adds Aux Power/Charging (most electric or electric over hydraulic brake systems have a batter on the trailer with an activation cable - if the trail becomes disconnected from the vehicle the battery applies power to stop itself), back up signal (this can be used for reverse lights if equipped on the trailer, but is most often used as an override on surge brake systems so that they don't activate when backing the trailer) and signal from the brake control.

Most states require brakes on trailers RATED FOR around 3000lbs or more. This is not ACTUAL weight going down the road with gear, it is the weight that the trailer and contents are capable of weighing. Some states I believe are as low as 1000 lbs and some as high as 3500 lbs.

Hitch: #S9F61-AU000
Hitch cover # S9F61-AU060
Wire harness #S9F67-AC000
What does this hitch cover look like does anybody already have one.

Have a’17 Pathfinder base AWD - rated for 6000lbs but don’t really trust that CVT.

Intrigued by the Telluride but also disappointed in this tow package rollout. Does anyone know if this Tekonsha/Tow Ready harness fits the ‘telly’?
Tekonsha part number 118269 (in a kit here 7 Way RV Trailer Wiring For 07-19 Kia Sorento 13-18 Hyundai Santa Fe 15-18 Sedona 07-12 Veracruz Plug Prong Pin Brake Control Ready )

CVT doubts aside, really like how Nissan handles buying towing with PF - every ‘17-19 example, all trims/drive come with HD alt, batt, engine+tranny cooling, underdash brake harness, and tow map on ECM w/tow button on dash - you add hitch+plug (or top Platinum trim provides standard)..I think this has to be cheapest/easiest way for manufacturers in the long run, don’t know why all makes don’t do it (well I gue$$ I do, pricey upgrades/packages)

My trailer had surge brakes. I need to find the reverse light wire. I will be installing a 7 pin plug but really only need 5 pins so I can back the trailer up. Once again where do I find the reverse wire I was able to find it on my Sorrento left rear interior trim panel. Behind the emergency fuel door release panel.

Diver - Did you ever get an answer? If so, can you share? I'm looking for the hitch online, no luck so far. Thanks in advance.

This place in Quebec has an aftermarket one that is 500lb TW but hangs just under the bumper for 206 CN.

Texas law for trailer brakes are 4800 I believe. A lot of boat trailers have hydraulic brakes that come on as the car slows down and are activated by the tongue slipping toward the car which applys the brake on the trailer. Check out the old Skeeter boat trailers which most welded the tongue because the tires would lock up as you backed down the ramp. Electric brakes are the way to go and yes KIA dropped the ball by not adding the brake booster and 7 pin conn-ection to the Telluride.
