These are first and foremost navigation map updates. The fact that they also have the added benefit of some new features every so often is just gravy on top. Last fall, 14.10 updated the Telluride’s interface to match other new Kias like the K5 and
Sorento, which was the most obvious visual change we have seen to date with any of these updates.
It is relatively unprecedented that Kia and Hyundai offer free, downloadable map updates that also sometimes offer other added functionality as well. I still never have updated the maps on my 2014 Chevrolet SS, and never did on my previous 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee before I traded it for my Telluride, either. If I wanted to, it would run me $100-$150 each time. FCA did begin offering over-the air UConnect updates during the life of my GC, but it of course did not update maps and did not offer significant improvements anyway.
