• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Does anybody know where to place the floor jack in the rear by the spare tire to raise both tires off the ground "safely" to place the floor jacks?

Look at the frame between the front wheel and the rear wheel whichever side you are on. Closer to the wheel there should be two tabs and a raised dot to line up with the jack under the body to signify where the jack should be placed.

I hate pinch weld jacking, there was another thread on this but no floor jack poimts were mentioned. I did a little interweb searxhing but did not come up with anything else.

Thanks. I will ask at the shop

I always have a square piece of wood that fits inside and is a little higher than the floor jack cup. It sounds terrible jacking up a vehicle, but it's the wood making the noise. That will deform before damaging the jacking point on the vehicle. In the old days when cars had frames, this was never an issue. Only with the advent of the unibody did jacking up a vehicle get harder to do without causing damage.

I change my wheels routinely and never had a problem with jacking on pinch joints, just avoid metal to metal contact

I usually push my floor jack under the suspension knuckle, as long as there's a nice round spot somewhere to grab. My BMW has a weird plastic rectangle that I'm supposed to insert the jack into, so I had to buy these special rubber pucks with a protruding rectangle to insert in there. Should be able to modify them with a grinder to grab the pinch welds.

The challenge for me has always been trying to negotiate where to place the jack stand after raising the KT with the floor jack.
Good point. I have two floor jacks and jack the car up from both sides and place the stand under the sturdiest part of the frame (too lazy the get under the car currently) or actually the differential in a pinch. I never lower the car on the stands, just have them there for safety.

Having worked on my lowered BMW's you either make or buy ramps and drive the car up on them. Slide the jack under and you are good. Just don't forget to put them back when you are finished and lowering it. 😲

I use the front and rear suspension crossmembers with my floor jack to raise the front end then the rear end. I put my jackstands at the reinforced pinch welds at both sides of the vehicle at the front and rear that are in the owners manual where you use the service jack to change a tire. No issues so far. I bought rubber inserts for my jackstands that come to a V and sit right in the pinch weld.
