Englewood Kia in NJ is $12k over MSRP now. Stay away!
And drive the 30 minutes to Nutley Kia. Looks like they’re now the only dealer in NJ selling at MSRP.Englewood Kia in NJ is $12k over MSRP now. Stay away!
I can confirm Paramount Kia in Asheville is charging $10k over MSRP as I just connected with them. They should 100% be taken off the Good Dealer list if that has not already happened.I've been researching too and thought I would add what I have learned about mark-ups(I'm in Charleston, SC but am looking all around me). I've been looking at S Trims. Some are estimates because I didn't see the sticker but can guesstimate based on the options they said they had:
Stokes Kia (Charleston): $5K
Kia Country (Charleston) $3400
Superior Kia (Orangeburg, SC): $4-6K (estimate based on failcat allotment, but was quoted $45,703 for an S trim)
Paramount Kia of Asheville: $10k
Kia of Greer, SC: $10K
Benson Kia of Spartanburg, SC: $6K
Myrtle Beach Kia: $3K package added (cargo tray, pin strip, mud flaps, wheel locks, nitrogen, 3 yr key replacement)
Lumberton Kia, NC: Wouldn't give me a price over the phone due to 'competitive market' but said up to $10k markup on 22 Tellurides
Good news?
Henderick Kia in Cary, NC: MSRP (allows order with a $1K refundable deposit)
Ricart Kia in Columbus, OH: MSRP (let's you know about incoming allotment and 'reserve' one coming in)
Is this purely dealers trying to take advantage of the situation? They aren’t paying anymore than their normal invoice are they? It’s really disgusting. I’d think at some point Kia would be concerned about this damaging their brand.
Why sad? There have never been price restrictions on car prices. MSRP is a reference price for negotiation, unlike the list price for iPhone or some other products where manufacturers mandate retailers to sell at determined prices. After 50 years of car buying, I’ve seen periods where cars sell above and below MSRP. There were recent times when dealer cost and even invoice prices were available. At least, there are some dealers selling at MSRP.Sad.
It’s sad because it’s taking advantage of people. A few thousand dollars is one thing but 10-20k is criminal. And many dealers are lying about it, misrepresenting it, saying it’s across the board or a “market adjustment.” After this bubble recedes, people who paid are going to be in bad financial situation with their cars, especially if they look to sell before the car is paid off.Why sad? Very true. But unfortunately some take their wordDuring my early years, a former car salesman friend told me not to believe what salesman say or do and may not be that knowledgeable. Don’t they always have a bad reputation?
While it outrages me, and I personally would never do business with dealers charging above MSRP, I understand why it’s legal (at least in the USA).Why sad? If they are not disclosing the price on the phone, they are charging more than MSRP.frustrating lot of dealers do not want to disclose on phone.
Sorry, that really sucks!Welp, just had a bad dealer experience with Stevens Creek Kia in San Jose. I placed my order in July and everything went swimmingly until they informed me that my car arrived today and that they were adding a $6k markup which they neglected to mention over the past few months. Feels like they should have said something before taking my sizable deposit.

I'm seriously tempted to start tweeting to Kia and these dealers very publically. I know Kia doesn't care and its all about supply and demand, but some of these places are advertising this is MSRP and not an upcharge.
I'm probably wasting my time i'd imagie
Sorry to hear that. Did you end up turning the car down?
Another reminder to get their price commitment in writing, even if it's an email confirming the order is for MSRP.
