However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi, I had placed an order way back in September, for a SX-P/N in Black Copper. My order has not been picked up by Kia yet. However, today, I wanted to change the exterior color to wolf grey, and I am being told that would result in the wait period restarting. Essentially, its like a new order. Is this normal?

Is there any way to retain the position in line while changing colors?

My sales guy told me something similar when I tried to change my interior from black to butterscotch. So I left it as is. Everything I read say you can make changes up until the order is picked up. Hopefully someone with direct knowledge of the process will chime in

That's what I was told back during my order as well. I think they just input a new order for you rather than updating the existing order. Didn't seem to matter, got picked up in KFOS in 2 months and delivered in 3.

Thanks Telluride35 and arattle. Restarting the wait on modifications does seem to be the norm then, but unfortunately, in Jan 2022 the wait is 6-9 months out - that too because I had already ordered, otherwise orders not even taken at this time. But anyway, missus wants Grey Wolf, and if she would be happy, I would be happy! So be it!

I changed my color and it was done as a new order. The original order was canceled and a new order was placed. Not only did it reset the wait time but also caused me to pay more because of the mid-year pricing change. So just be aware if your dealer does this you might need to pay a little more than you originally thought.

ok! thanks for that additional insight!

Place another order and buy the current Telluride you have on order. When the other comes sell it for profit and buy the new one. The dealer is just going to sell that order to someone else.

Changed mine from an EX-P to an SX. Was told it wouldn't change my wait time. Yet somehow my original EX-P showed up and my SX still hasn't been picked up by KIA.

Assuming you can clear the tax, title & misc fees and are comfortable with the risk, albeit low, of an accident prior to getting the 2nd car.

As my father used to say "it all works out, until it doesn't"

These cars are an 8 month wait you’d be damn near guaranteed to easily clear what you have into it. I’m not a betting man but I would bet on that.

This is what just a quick search of used Tellurides are going for by me

Sorry if this is in another post, but KFOS is the Kia system? What is typical time for Kia to pick up the order? Is it dependent on the volume of the dealer? Ordered recently and was just wondering average time from when dealer places the order and when Kia accepts order. Any help or link to how the whole process works would be helpful.

You’re probably looking 8-10 months right now till delivery time it seems. I know high volume dealers are even quoting 6-8 months. It seems typically from the time the order is picked up till delivery is around 2 months. So mostly just a waiting game till the order is picked up.

Thanks for the response. Will be interesting to see. They quoted 3-4 months and he was adamant about it. I asked him several times and I said that seems aggressive based on what others are seeing with wait times. He said again 3-4 months. Guess we will see. Don’t quite believe him, but they are highly regarded dealer that sells at MSRP in Cincinnati. Not getting my hopes up, but in no rush for new vehicle if it takes longer.

Thanks for the idea Mk2driver..my dealer has stopped taking new orders starting December, something to think about.

Did you order from Sweeney KIA?

Read this and it'll clarify some things. Each dealer gets a different allocation every month - you can find your dealer's average allocation on failcat.com. From there you can guesstimate your wait if you know how many orders are in front of you. Once your allocation is picked up by Kia, you're down to a 4-6 week wait.

Just picked up my 2022 SX. Originally wanted Ebony Black exterior but dealer told me I could get Black Copper in just a few weeks. He said if I wanted Ebony, it would be 12-18 weeks or longer. As you can see, I went with the Black Copper. Order-to-delivery was 4 weeks. :) I have no idea how KIA manages their ordering process but I don't see any logic in trim/paint/interior build schedules. I guess you just place your order and take what you get.

If a dealer has an unassigned car coming in and you're OK taking it, then you didn't really order it - but you also didn't have to wait for an order to be picked up in KFOS, scheduled, and built. It's a great way to get a car quickly, just have to be flexible on the color/options.

Confirming that my exterior color change has been input and I got the updated KDealer form. What is interesting is the request ID is the same on both new and old forms. This makes me think that the existing order was updated rather than a new order entered. Just reporting and thinking aloud..I am no expert in dealer operations.
