Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

I am currently awaiting word from Cadillac, to see if I will be getting a 2022 CT5-V Blackwing. They are only making 1500 of them and then Cadillac plans to go all electric . It is a VERY hot car to get, IF you can get it. My ace up the sleeve, is that we are neighbors of the owner of the dealership. She hasn't promised, but believes she can get me one her allotments at MSRP. I've been waiting 2 months already and haven't heard back. My 2018 Chevy Colorado ZR2 was bought for $43k out the door price. I have been offered $39k for it right now. I will most definitely sell it privately, than let it go to a dealer and I get screwed over. There is no honor among thieves. That is what ALL of these dealers are. They are making anywhere from 8-10% profit at MSRP.
Yet your dealer neighbor is nice enough to try and get you the car you want at MSRP. Hope she doesn't see your post!

She already admits that car dealers are thieves. That's why her dealership was inherited from her Dad and they have been in business since the 1940's. They also owned a Chevy dealership and sold it to another dealership for millions ! Two dealerships was too much to handle for her and she decided to keep the "moneymaker" Cadillac. Now she needs to decide if she is going to spend a fortune on the upcoming electric technology needed to stay a Cadillac dealership or sell it , make millions more and just retire. She isn't young anymore and no one to pass it down to.

Oo
No worries, wanted to reply back but didn't get time. Finally i was able to get to the dealership on 1/1 after the bad weather in last week of dec. Everything went smooth with the dealership with the new car, everything was almost ready. The only part which took time was for the trade in, where they tried to low ball as expected. But i was able to negotiate few times and get them around the estimate i got from Shift, vroom, etc including the WA tax credit. May have gotten another $500 more if tried vroom, KBB or others but didn't wanted to go through the hassle in the bad weather as mine was a RWD.

Telluride is awesome and I love it!. No regrets that I went with white exterior although i choose black ebony on my order. Love the look of it.
ooh yay! Thank you for the reply. I’m so happy to hear the transaction went smoothly. Enjoy your new Telly!

Purchased my 2022 EX back in October 2021 at MSRP at Celebration Kia. Now the same 2022 EX is now an additional $6k. This seem to be the new "dealer sales model". It was bad enough paying MSRP.
As a dealer, I don't like mark ups at all. I agree it adds to the dis-trust consumers already have toward dealers.

But the side consumers don't see, is small margin between MSRP and Invoice on these units Kia gives us, and what Kia did to the dealers during the shortage. Some brands have margin at MSRP, Kia and Hyundai aren't in that group

In the "old days" (last year) if we hit our unit "number" from Kia we got money to bridge the gap (step money, around an extra $1000 per car payed on the back side). Due to the shortage the manufactures have taken away incentives from the dealer and the customer. There's nothing at all. On a Forte or a Rio/Niro there is less than $800 profit

So we go from selling 130 new cars a month to 20, and those 20 make maybe $1500 profit on average if sold as MSRP, you can see how it isn't sustainable with the overhead. Today dealers are seeing 65 percent or more cash deals or outside financing, so we don't see money from that either (usually $200-500 per deal).

How much do you make from Kia financing, prepaid maintenance, and extended warranties?

Just curious

If they finance at the advertised . 9 or 1.9 rate it’s around a $225 “flat”. Pre paid maint has a markup of maybe 150-200. Warranties are more, but it depends on what they buy.

My take is that dealers generally do make that much profit on selling new cars. After all the expenses allocated to the showroom and commissions, there can't be much left. I think the bulk of profits come from the service department and used car sales.

Right now with parts shortages, service depts are suffering. Some of the big mega chains are killing it, a lot of mom and pop dealers are closing doors

We also tried for Jim Ellis since they are local. They said “we sell for MSRP + our Jim Ellis Protection Package (+$5089) lol. The “protection package” is tinted windows and Nitro fill on your tires. After calling around a bunch of places we decided to order from i25 in Colorado.
I am in Georgia and having no luck finding MSRP. You mentioned you went with i25 in Colorado? Are they shipping you the vehicle and if so what is the cost? I saw here that Ed Voyles in Chamblee was selling at MSRP- at least in September. I reached out so will see...
Thanks!

They will ship, or you can do what my wife and I are going to do. Fly and make a road trip out of it, just know that its going to be wait. We were told 6-8 months and on 1/10 when we ordered this year, we were number 77 on the list.

Russ Darrow Waukesha just asked for 8k market adjustment on a '22 SX AWD P/T. $58k before TTL on a $50k MSRP. Had to walk.

Good move. These cars are nice but not that special. I am done with both Pallisade and Kia dealers as well as Hyundai. Will never own a Hyundia

Bronx Kia..10 K over MSRP on a wolf grey...funny thing is when I said no, the sales manager told me my genesis trade in was a Hyundai, was actually mad at me

I placed an order with Walker Kia in Alexandria, Louisiana on 07/21/21 for a Glacier White/Dune Brown SX AWD P/T at MSRP, $500 down. I was told it would be 8 to 12 weeks. At the time of the order, they told me that there were 5 cars ordered before mine. They called me on 12/21/21 and cancelled my order because they couldn't guarantee when it would be ready. I told them that I was willing to wait and did not want to cancel the order. They cancelled the order anyway and refunded my $500. SO FRUSTRATING!

Another great reason to b done with Kia and Hyundai.

I just crossed over the Mississippi River into Louisiana today ! I have never been west of the Mississippi River in my life. I was immediately pulled over by State Troopers for doing 84 in a 70. Nice Sheriff gave me a warn and admonish. I have just driven 1300 miles in my new Telluride on my way to AZ and CA. I really love the adaptive cruise control. The Waze App is very helpful. No one posted about the Trooper to warn me in time. I also got my first bullseye chip in the windshield. Tomorrow the Great State of Texas !

It’s roughly 1800-2000$ for open transport. But I am at i25 Kia/Fowler and we do sell at msrp. No market adjustment or mandatory packages.

Car Pros Kia in Huntington Beach can KMA. Trying to make me feel like they’re giving me a deal by ‘only’ charging $6,500 over msrp on a sx nightfall. Unfortunately, the demand is there - just not from me (or probably anyone reading this)…

Samsone Kia in jersey was nice enough to offer me an option for them to do a dealer trader but then when I asked how much he said 8k over and sent it over. He forgot to mention the 1k dealer add on. When I called him back he’s like I can get that taken off if you put down a deposit now… I had to politely pass. I then found the dealer he was willing to trade with and they said they’re selling at 7k over and told me any orders at MSRP are never going to get filled…

This dealer really seems (slim) shady… first they were (allegedly) MSRP, then they were MSRP, but you had to add a couple grand Lo-Jack-type system (unnecessary with UVO), and now they’re 8K over?

Zip 40 minutes North on the Parkway to Nutley Kia and avoid these shenanigans.
