• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I am trying to order from Fowler. I noticed the options/accessories list online is cheaper compared to what Fowler sent me? Fowler marks it up? Interior light kit is $450 online but they say its $650. Carpet floor mats is $210 online but they say its $220. Side step bars is $650 online but they want $950.

Did you have a question or was your post just more of an FYI?

Do most dealers mark up their options?

I just went on the fowler website to build a Telly and the light kit is listed at $450. Where did you get $650 from?

Fowler sent me their options list and all the options pricing is higher than what is on the website. So I was wondering if most dealers sell the options for more? Maybe that’s how Fowler recoups the MSRP.

It may be their price if they install. Price + labor kind of thing.

That doesn’t make sense. When you order from Kia, options like multi colored interior lights should be installed when they build your car. Installation costs for floor mats and cargo cover? Those just go in.

If ordered as add-ons to your vehicle order, yes. If purchased from them after the fact, who knows. If you really wanted to know you'd call Fowler and ask instead of speculating online with others who don't really know.

@irvineboy OP: I don’t have answers to your question, but it’s a good question and it’s hard to imagine getting a less helpful response than you got. The internet really sucks sometimes.

I have emailed my associate to ask. They didn’t respond yet so I posted here. Tough crowd.
It’s unfortunate when people come to an Internet forum like this to ask questions and/or get help and end up getting shit on. I’ve been there myself. Like…why are people here if not to help and contribute? Anyway, I can’t help you, but the prices you’ve described seem sketchy to me. Sadly, car dealerships are are known to be the worst.

my best guess is he came in hot, posting immediately several new threads and bumping years old threads instead of reading. Which some see as a forum faux pas.

his question is valid, I think the frantic blitz for answers maybe rubbed some the wrong way?

Geez, tough crowd for sure. Tried helping, but being honest is frowned upon sometimes I guess. I meant no disrespect. My point is just that Fowler knows why the prices are different. If Fowler refused to answer or were being shady in their reply, then subjective speculation would be fair and warranted.

Aren’t the prices from Kia MSRP? Manufacturer’s Suggested prices means the dealers can charge what they want and change their price whenever they want and buyers can try to negotiate back down. If you are trying to place a custom order rather than pick from dealer allocation and minimal options, consider that in today’s market everything is marked up and if you are financing (even if the rate is cheap) over time you are paying interest on marked up options. I would try to bundle in options in the pre pandemic when you could get closer to invoice or under MSRP. But today I would avoid it unless it’s a feature that can only come from the factory that I felt was a must have. Otherwise, you can shop around and get most options from a dealer who sells parts online and not finance it for years.

Fowler responded. They said the reason their options list is higher than what is on the Kia website is because Kia increased the cost of their options last week. The website is not updated yet. Sounds fishy?

Seems reasonable to me. It’s a risk to make that statement if it’s not true since you will find out if it was a lie soon enough when the website is updated. Most websites for corporations go through change control and can’t get updated on the fly.

We'll know soon enough.

Fowler also quoted me almost double for open shipping compared to Arapahoe.

Kia’s website has NOT been updated with the latest options pricing. Fowler could have just said option prices include additional labor cost but how do they add options like the interior lighting, after Telluride is manufactured? Did others get this options list?

Maybe it’s not the same lighting kit from Kia? There are many aftermarket options.
