• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The UVO Link is not available in Massachusetts due to a recent law that was passed. The app does not allow the VIN to become "linked" upon setup. The law that was passed was the "Right to Repair", (Question 1). In other words, some of the UVO features will work but not remote start/stop, etc.

This was brought up earlier in 2021.

2020 and 2021 model years are unaffected.

What happens if you buy from out of state and live in Massachusetts? Does the app not allow you to activate it?

Depending on wait times, I might order a different model Kia from out of state. Just wondering if I did this, would I be able to use the app.

Correct, the app will not work in Mass.

From the Terms of Service:

Availability. KIA CONNECT SERVICES are only available in the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia. HOWEVER, KIA CONNECT SERVICES ARE CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE IN MODEL YEAR 2022 AND NEWER VEHICLES THAT ARE PURCHASED OR SOLD IN MASSACHUSETTS. BY ENROLLING A MODEL YEAR 2022 OR NEWER VEHICLE IN KIA CONNECT SERVICES, YOU REPRESENT, WARRANT, AND CERTIFY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PURCHASED OR SOLD IN MASSACHUSETTS. FOR PURPOSES OF THIS AGREEMENT, A VEHICLE IS “PURCHASED OR SOLD IN MASSACHUSETTS” IF: (A) EITHER THE SELLER/LESSOR OR THE BUYER/LESSEE OF THE VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN MASSACHUSETTS WHEN COMPLETING THE CONTRACT FOR SALE OR LEASE; (B) THE CONTRACT FOR SALE OR LEASE STATES THAT THE SALE OR LEASE OCCURRED IN MASSACHUSETTS; (C) THE VEHICLE IS DELIVERED TO THE BUYER OR LESSEE IN MASSACHUSETTS; OR (D) THE BUYER OR LESSEE IS REQUIRED TO PAY SALES TAX OR USE TAX IN MASSACHUSETTS.

Sounds to me like they've locked down most of the likely scenarios around buying a car.

I have no idea, though, what happens if you buy the vehicle out of state, actually register and title the vehicle out of state, and subsequently move to MA. Seems like the "sales tax or use tax" provision would cover buying a new or used car in MA, but if you already own the car, I don't think it would apply. So if I moved from NY to MA with my already purchased/registered/titled Telluride, I would expect that Kia Connect should still be available.

FWIW, I remember reading someplace that Subaru also disabled their platform in MA over similar right-to-repair concerns.

what If you buy a used Telluride that was originally sold in MA but buy it outside MA?

Doesn't the app or head unit ask if you're in Mass.? Can't just lie and say no?
