2nd post in this group so pardon my ignorance if this has been mentioned, I tried to find the answer already …
I’m leaning towards ordering my Telly soon but a thought occurred…does it matter the dealership size when Kia picks up orders or is it just random how many are allocated from each dealership? The dealership I’m thinking of ordering from has 143 orders in failcat and I searched other dealers close to me (from larger cities) who have more orders. So is it a good thing to consider the dealer with less orders? Or maybe the dealership size has no correlation with how many of their orders get picked up each month.

Depends on how long you are willing to wait.

Larger dealers will get larger allotments than smaller dealers.

The numbers on failcat help you gauge allotment size and how many units the dealership gets in every month.

Yes I looked at failcat but obviously the larger dealers have hundreds more orders but if they get more each month than a smaller dealer maybe that’ll make my order arrive sooner ???

Its a numbers game.
Me personally, I would and I have ordered with a mid size to larger dealer.

A smaller dealer might have a lot of orders by only receive 2-5 units a month. Meaning an extremely long wait time for you.
A higher volume dealer will also have a lot or orders but receives 20-50 units a month. Meaning the order list moves quicker, reducing your wait time.

I ordered back in November and took delivery on 2/5.
I was reading about people who ordered before me and still waiting after I had picked mine up.

You have to determine how long you are willing to wait.

Yes this is exactly what I was trying to determine…which places would have the longer wait. Smaller dealer has 143 orders in failcat larger dealer has 800. Both charging MSRP. So I asked both places what their allotment was and didn’t really get a straight answer. I was initially leaning towards the smaller dealer bc less orders in front of me but if larger dealer is getting more orders per month wait time might be less.

I think you have a misunderstanding of failcat. Failcat is not an list of orders pending for each dealer. Those are built cars sent to the dealers. So when you place an order it goes into Kia’s dealer system, once the order gets picked up by Kia in KFOS that is when it gets a build date, a VIN assigned and will show up on Failcat.

I would recommend calling around to a few dealers and seeing how many people have orders in que, then you can look up that dealer in Failcat to see an idea of how many cars that they have built monthly. Be aware to filter down to specific model (I.e. SX AWD) as each dealer has separate lists for models.

This is good advice. It definitely seems trim and options also play a part. It seems to me that SX orders are getting filled more often than EX or S trim levels. Is that due to more SX trims being ordered, not sure but SX trims are on Failcat way more than EX.

Yeah SX is the most popular ordered trim that there is, which is why you generally see the most of them.

sorry if answered already, does this mean the date in failcat is the build date or the date Kia picks up your order?

Thanks for all the information and help

Not a 100% but I believe it is just when the vehicle is completed. I know for sure it’s not when the order gets picked up because between that and a vin generation is a little bit of a delay. If I remember correctly it’s like 1-2 month wait once your order enters KFOS (picked up). But each dealer could be a little different time frame.

Thanks for all the very useful information.
I too was wondering about a simple question.
Does Kia builds orders as 'FIRST IN, FIRST SERVED', at least for a given model in a given region? That is, if you order the same car model in the same region on the same day from Dealer A high volume vs dealer B mid volume, will your overall wait to delivery be different?

If it is 'FIRST IN, FIRST SERVED', dealer volume should not matter.

I spoke with a dealer he said they place the order in Kia's order queue. So the two orders from large dealer A and from medium dealer B will go in the same day and have literally the same place in Kia's queue.

How does 'allocation' play into this?

Being new to this, I’m surprised I don’t see a lot of double or triple ordering, figuring one will be faster than the other. Not like the dealer you withdraw from is stuck, they’ll still sell in a heartbeat. And seems most of the deposits are refundable. Just not kosher?

I'm seeing the largest number of orders with these refundable places which means long waits.

I guess the non-refundable deposit at South Dade Kia scared folks off and let me score a loaded SX in under two months. I also have orders from other "refundable" places but the wait times are easily 6-12 months.

Did you ever get the towing package installed? I am waiting on my Telly from South Dade Kia but they say they won’t even order the parts. Thanks
