2023 Kia Telluride Discussion

Newbie here, with my first post to a great forum that has tons of useful information for a possible future Telluride owner.

Hoping y’all can answer a few questions.

1. I put down a deposit and ordered my ES SX Prestige in January. At this point I haven’t gotten a lot of info from the dealer and don’t know if I’m able to get a 2022 or 23, the thing is, I’m now thinking I would prefer the color GWP. Is it too late to change the color?

2. When should we expect more information/images of the SX Prestige on the ‘23? I noticed the 2023 Kia Sportage has a different grille on the XLine and xPro than the other trim levels, and hoping that Is the case for the new Telluride.

3. Also, has anyone been able to do a good photoshop of the new style with a black and/or body color lower grill, instead of the gray in all the photos?

I’m really excited about getting the new ride and can’t wait until it’s available.

I am currently in queue for a 2022 waiting to be picked up from the St. Cloud, MN dealership. A few weeks back I was number 18 in line for SX (green moss exterior, no premium package or nightfall) trim and they get 4-6 orders allocated every three weeks, so hoping to be picked up by July.

I am like most here where I prefer the new interior and would love to keep the moss exterior without the chunky odd grey front end. I think having the 4 way lumbar support, passenger lumbar + the new tech features would be great, but do not know if it trumps the odd looking exterior front chin strap. Oh what to do…

Anyone know if boss moss will be an available color on the 23? I think if so I might delay…

Just called them play and pretty likely I’ll be getting a 2023. about 10 in line before mine is picked up is what the rep said. I ordered Dec 5. What trim did you order? Hope it helps!

Just a heads up. I have access to S&P Automotive Market News (Formerly known as IHS). Monthly they update the production plans for every model. The Telluride has a max yearly output of around 90,000 vehicles, which means they roughly produce 8,000 monthly. In July, S&P is reporting that they will only produce 5,000 Tellurides. The out months from that are back to the 8k/month. Based on that, it is likely that Kia is cutting over production in July to the 2023.

The Telluride has a max yearly output of around 90,000 vehicles, which means they roughly produce 8,000 monthly. In July, S&P is reporting that they will only produce 5,000 Tellurides. The out months from that are back to the 8k/month. Based on that, it is likely that Kia is cutting over production in July to the 2023.

Kia says that they are upping production to 120k a year. I guess that is starting with the 2023. Hopefully this will put a stop to the price gouging that is going on right now.

Where's the link to that announcement? S&P shows the rest of this generation and the next will be produced at 80k annually. The only way I can see an uptick to 120k is if they are exporting from Korea. I only have access to North America production. Companies can't simply up production without adding additional assembly lines. If Kia were to do that, they would have to sacrifice production on another vehicle at West Point, which the data doesn't indicate. Sportage Sorento and K5 are produced at West Point. A switch over of any of the other lines would put a pretty dramatic downtime at the facility, 8-12 weeks likely at minimum, and with the back log of orders everywhere, not just the Telluride, I can't imagine any OEM forgoing production time at this critical stage of profit grabs.

Unfortunately, I think that's wishful thinking. S&P is pretty much the bible for production in automotive.

Here's to hoping that is correct. I guess the question is when and how. Theoretically, 20% could be achieved by mandatory Saturday on the production line. Not sure the math on 20% over 80k-85k becomes 120k, but they definitely could use it.

They would also need to get confirmation of capacity from every supplier to produce beyond 20% over daily capacity rate. That is likely why they chose 20%. Automotive contracts for suppliers are written to a lean capacity rate + a certain percent. Normally between 15 and 25 percent. It is likely that Kia would need to pay for additional tooling and refurbishment costs to secure the additional units, but it would be well worth it.

I found these on Instagram. I'm assuming this is an x-line (please correct me if I'm wrong), with wolf gray on top and gravity gray down low. The bumpers/grill area being dark or black looks much better than the silver.

Yea that's pretty terrible looking with the silver lower front bumper trim. I'm still likely going to upgrade from my 22' EX to a 23' SX X-line though simply due to all of the upgrades I get. My plan is to just get that lower bumper trim wrapped which might end up actually looking pretty good.

It's close between 2021 and 2022, since the overall differences are subtle. But I think the black 2022 grille (just standard, not NF) beats the 2021 bright grille, and the sleek new Kia corporate logo is a marked improvement. 2023 has odd lights and a mouth-like opening that looks like a redundant, secondary grille.

I guess I'm an outlier. The 2023 is really growing on me. I plan to order a jungle green x-line as soon as ordering opens up.

Add me to those who don't like the silver-ish lower grille. Might be OK in a dark/nightfallish shade if that is what they are doing with the X-pro line. With an order that was going to probably come up this summer, I had been going back and forth on the 22 vs 23 -- liked the 22 exterior, but was intrigued by the double digital screens of the 23. Basically was talking myself into being happy either way.

Became a moot point when my order was picked up last month, so I'm going with "I prefer the '22."
