Dealer Markup

maybe not the dealership you shopped in Houston but I dealt with a Houston dealer who tried to up charge the base SX by $10,000. All over the State of Florida they are marking up the vehicle as well. Definitely not exclusive to California
That’s a really old post. Pre-May 16.

Dealer in Austin tried to add $10,500 to the sticker just because it was a "premium" vehicle. I had put an order in for the exact one and was willing to buy from them but not an extra amount like that.

Someone's clearly paying this silliness. For everyone's sake I wish they would knock it off. I felt like I got a huge victory at MSRP.

All the dealers in the SF Bay Area and LA Area are charging anywhere between $2k - $6k mark up above the MSRP. I called a dealer in Houston, TX and they are not doing that. CA is the only state that it is charging extra for this car. I guess is the law of supply and demand.
I know a couple of dealers in the bay area asking for MSRP price. If you are interested, let me know.

I went to see the Telluride for the first time today. The dealership I went to, which will remain nameless, didn’t use a standard markup, but added over $3,000 to the MSRP with items such as security system, nitrogen filled tires, and a paint/fabric protection. Needless to say, I won’t be buying from them if they don’t remove those charges. I can wait another 2-3 years when my next lease is done to take a look.
I went to Miami Lakes Kia and the had at least $1,500 in add fees. They said the dealer requies all cars to have 1. Etching 2. Apperance Protection 3. Gps tracking. They said all cars are sold with those 3 standard. Needless to say I left. Two days later they said they would remove them if I would come back in and purchase. LOL.

I actually have zero issues with dealers *asking* for more than MSRP. That is simple economics: supply and demand. If someone is willing to pay $10K over MSRP for a mass-produced Telluride, who am I to argue? Let the market be.

However, I personally wouldn't pay a cent over MSRP. Why? Because when the supply increases, prices will come back in line.

You've options: either wait or find a dealer who is willing to deal at MSRP.

Dealer in Yuba City, CA is placing an order for us for an S without mark up. Ibe talked to another dealer who also said special orders dont get markup. If any added fees beyond the destination charge get added I will not be happy.

Has anyone seen any northern Cali dealers not charging markup? All the ones in the Sacramento area want $4k.

I feel exactly the same way. While the Telluride does provide very good value for what it is, it is ultimately still a mass produced vehicle. The frenzy will subside at one point or another.

Paying over MSRP just means even greater depreciation right off the bat too. I'd rather just be patient.

Kia Capitol is taking orders at MSRP. But who knows when they would even come in.

Who in the Bay Area or anywhere near here is only asking MSRP?

What dealers in the Bay Area or anywhere close are only charging MSRP? I’ve been getting quoted with mark ups of between $1997-$9999.

Spoke to someone at a SoCal dealer today and they said they are "only" asking $5k over MSRP, which according to him is a positive since others are asking $7k-$10k over. NFW will I ever pay over MSRP for any car (I don't buy exotics or rare cars), which means that depending on how long this silliness continues I may end up w/ a 2020 Explorer instead.

Just get Palisade instead. Way more features inside, and the suspension is better than the Telluride. I.E. overall a better car at the same price. Doesn't come with Kia logo either.

I leased mine in NJ $51000.00 that was with $5000.00 in rebates off and added warranty for tire and wheel protection and Dent Scratches and fabric protection and 15000 miles a yr for 2 yrs plus tags tax registration and other cost i have know clue about( my mistake) due to I only looked at the monthly payment .I leased it because its so new i didnt want to buy it out right if their were problems.i found that i needed to add the running boards to help myself into the suv due to my disability so they charged me an other $1300.00 for those installed with a 10% military discount. When I said they were on the kia.com site for $695.00 they said its because it was installed at the factory which isn't so.They took them off of kia web site so I can't prove it. After the fact I called other kia dealers in NJ for the running boards they were $200.00 dollars cheaper with out the discount installed. They also had me sign a paper when I bought the running boards but gave me a different receipt so I ask for a copy of the receipt I signed and I was told that it was an internal paper and I could not have a copy because their was information on it we the customer were not able to see (what are they hiding) when I told him (The manager of service)I wanted it shredded if they aren't going to give me a copy that by law I am entitled to it because I signed it they said they would shredded it but they tore it up instead reprinted it again with out my signature and filed that one.I made some mistakes when buying this Telluride but I do love it so I guess I will survive but I will never go back to buy a vehicle from them again. P.S I am a 20yr military disabled veteran that they took advantage of but they won't get me again.I thought they were a honest dealer but I guess I was wrong. Buyer be wear.

Ummm, it does not have way more features inside. Plus the telluride does not have that ridiculous grill and it does not look like a goofy station wagon from the side. Two wheel options, both being below-average does not help the palisade. And don't get me started on that push button gear shift. But hey, it does have a button to lower the 3rd row.........too bad it takes 45 seconds to do what the telluride can do in 1 second by pulling a strap. But hey, if you like to push buttons, get a pallisade

To get the same features as the Telluride you have to add packages onto the Palisade which makes it more expensive. Plus the dealerships in my area are already charging a mark up on the Palisade too.

TBH it's both the look of the Telluride (exterior and interior) and glowing reviews that are attracting me. Haven't driven it - only multiple YouTube videos. The Palisade doesn't do the same for me on the outside.

Whether it's the Explorer, an Aviator or a used Model X (we generate lots of excess electricity with our solar), I'm sure I'll be happy in whatever other direction I go. Good for Kia in terms of building what seems like a great vehicle that is generating a $hit ton of demand and interest in their brand. The only downside for them is that during this MSRP markup phase they are probably missing out on an admittedly small cohort of buyers (present company included) that previously wouldn't have considered a Kia, but will probably end up in another brand due to timing.

I'll easily pay more for the Aviator or Model X than I would for a marked-up Telluride, but like many here I simply won't pay over MSRP even if it is a great vehicle.
