• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

there are owners with 23' model year vehicles that have experienced the same issues. I don't think they've fully got a handle on the issue yet

I think this is such a wide range of symptoms that it is often hard to pinpoint. Over-inflated tires, former car owners that are now driving a taller vehicle and unaware of the wind resistance, failure to check alignment, failure to rotate tires, poor choices in aftermarket rims, unbalanced rims, dented rims . . . all of these could lead to vibration issues. But the actual recording I saw where the problem was tied back to the specific problem here that results in replacing the AWD components is, in my opinion, vibration to the point that it makes the vehicle unsafe and uncomfortable to drive. Like if you had a 3/4 full cup of water in the cup holder and the vibration was so bad that the water was spilling or the sun shade shook so much it came out of the clip.

No, the dealer still Dosen’t notice it or thinks it is normal
After a year of complaining and waiting finally last week I took out the KIA service tech for a drive. I drove the car for thirty minutes so it was warm and for sure worse and he felt the jerking straight away as well as them taking it home got the night. They inspected it and said the rear differential is done and have submitted to KIA last week for a warranty repair. 60k and hopefully a resolution, will send update when I see what they say

The stutter is back. I took it to the dealer back in September per my post and they couldn't reproduce. It's happening so frequently now, it's impossible to ignore.

Also have this problem on our 2022. Started happening after we towed our RV last month. Hasn't gone away and it's getting worse. It's generally three shudders when accelerating from a full stop, turning left or right. Low speed only.

Without knowing more details, it could be a transmission going bad. On the brighter side, it could be something simpler (and a lot less worrisome) -- e.g., related to bad self-leveling shocks. Either way, don't shoot the messenger. o_O

Certainly possible. Going to have to start taking in to the dealer regularly. I bought it new, so I've still got 81k left on the power train warranty.

Did you get a new rear differential? under warranty? How does the car ride now? Thx.

When our 2020 Telluride was doing this we had approx 60k miles. I noticed it really only did it when hot. We did all of the driveline fluid changes (rear diff, transmission (includes front diff)). the fluid change made the issue go away, though recently now we are at about 70k miles and it does still happen on occasion.

So We bought our 2020 in January of 2020. Almost right off the bat our rear end will thump and jerk on acceleration, more noticeable on a incline or a turn. When this occurs it also effects the cars acceleration. I have had it to the dealer three times, one of which the car was kept at the dealership so an engineer could be consulted. After two day I was advised that the dealership, by direction of engineering check the rear differential and reset the transmission. this fix lasted about a week. I have been advised by the service writer that Kia will have to Fix the car should anything happen, warranty or not. I am scheduling the car for yet another appointment, as this is way way past an annoyance.
  1. Document the issue: Keep a record of each visit to the dealership, including dates, descriptions of the problem, and any actions taken by the dealership or engineer. This documentation will be helpful if you need to escalate the issue further.
  2. Request a comprehensive inspection: When you schedule your next appointment, clearly communicate the ongoing nature of the problem and ask the dealership to conduct a thorough inspection of the rear end components, including the differential, suspension, and drivetrain. This will help ensure that all potential causes are thoroughly investigated.
  3. Contact Kia directly: If you continue to experience difficulties resolving the issue through the dealership, consider contacting Kia directly to escalate the matter. You can reach out to their customer service department and explain the situation, providing them with the documentation you have gathered. They may be able to provide additional guidance or support in resolving the problem.
  4. Consult an independent mechanic: If the issue remains unresolved despite your efforts with the dealership, you could consider seeking a second opinion from an independent mechanic who specializes in Kia vehicles or drivetrain issues. They may be able to provide insights or potential solutions that the dealership might have missed.

Just jumping in here. I have a '23 with 8.7k miles and just started noticing it. I have had Wranglers with aftermarket locking rear diffs in the past and it feels reminiscent of that locking/unlocking sensation making tight turns from a stop. I have yet to experience it on the highway as some have described. I will have it checked in a few weeks when I get the little dashboard center speaker trim piece recall done.

Mine is bucking like a bronco on all sharp right and left turns from a dead stop every time. At least the tech won't be able to deny it's happening now when I take it in.

Look forward to hearing what their diagnosis is! Good luck!

Yes it was replaced under warranty and seems okay again

Same problem in 2020 EX with 50k. It happens more frequently after towing a travel trailer on an extended trip. Car is in the dealership right now. I've experienced the Jeep thing, too, and have heard it's an unavoidable symptom of 4WD. I'm wondering if this is actually bad for the drivetrain OR if it's simply annoying but doesn't affect the longevity of the vehicle.
*Anecdotally, I likely have a failed self-leveling rear shock absorber, too (though I'd be 'shocked' if that is what is causing the diff to bind).

I'm scheduled to have my 2020 checked at the end of the month but currently traveling. Does anyone have any information on the progression of this issue. Some thumping when turning and acceleration I can deal with but broken down on the highway not so much.

@GeorgiaTelluride any chance you would share a scan of the service write-up for having the differential replaced? Obviously don't need to see addresses/personal info, just want to see what the dealership wrote up as the issue/fix.

I’m sure there is other paperwork in vehicle but it’s back in again today to have all the NF trim replaced. Separate issue captured in another forum but they replaced it a few weeks back with two different trim colors so now the latest and greatest trim is supposed to be installed today. Anyway diff paperwork attached and if anything in car will post…..do you see how long it was in shop before they finally changed it, now I’m also trying to get rental money back….never ends!!

Mine is going in the end of the month. Just completed a trip and it was fine but the jerking and thumping when starting out is worse then ever and everyone in the car notices it.

As soon as I took it in and they said that’s what the issue was they said if I took it off the lot the warranty was voided hence why it sat at the dealership so long. It would hardly do it when cold but I took it in after a long drive and it was like it was tearing itself apart inside
