Kia is bringing a whole new group of buyers to their brand. Kia in the US, other than the Borrego from years ago, has not sold anything that can seriously tow for a while. They really should rethink and revisit how they market towing capability. I don't find it intuitive at all. They have accessories, options, packages, modes with nice-to-haves and must-haves all blurry. If they market the option to tow, then the required components to accomplish that spec should be very clearly identified. What is missing that Kia does not sell should also be clearly identified. I still have many questions as to why you would want to brand softer and more expensive mechanically self-leveling shocks as a towing package.
If you bought a "package" of anything the most basic assumption is that you get everything you need packaged up in one thing. If it came with stuff you didn't need and was missing stuff to accomplish what it's goal is, you would question who put the package together.
In this case, I don't blame the buyer for making some basic assumptions. I'm frustrated that Kia is clear as mud and dealers who don't have experience with many vehicles that can tow are ill-informed. The value add of the dealership is to help the buyer not mislead them.
Compare the Nissan Pathfinder specs website to the Kia Telluride specs. Towing is broken out as a separate category and Nissan, who happens to also sell trucks that can do more towing, also offers a towing guide website and PDF that educates the buyer very clearly on what they can do and what they need. By comparison Kia makes it a mystery before you buy and sometimes impossible to order everything you need, then you look in the manual and you see a couple pages that appear to be copy and pasted from a
Sorento of a couple years ago.

I would also expect something similar from any brands that have SUVs and trucks in their lineup.
I'm very happy with my 2020 Telluride, but I had to do a ton of research and posted the information on this very forum because it was lacking. Often times I got the right answer here before Kia even corrected it in the owners manual.
I know I sound harsh on Kia, but people buy midsized SUVs for families and in the US that sometimes means hauling. More often that includes people who are new to larger SUVs who aren't truck owners have never towed cargo/utility trailers, boats, campers, etc. Not providing enough information on safe towing for a novice user just makes me wonder if they are confident it is up to the task, but more importantly it makes our roads less safe.
