Maybe someone who has the new OEM kit installed on an SX or EX trim, which I think is ONLY available through a dealer and requires a dealer install (since it is a DIO)....maybe that person could ask for an explanation of how their vehicle tailgate now acts differently. A reasonable question to ask. Or, lacking an explanation from the dealer service department, could conduct a few experiments to investigate. Open/Close tailgate with remote, with tailgate mounted control, with the auto-open feature activated, with a trailer attached, while standing close to the tailgate to simulate an obstruction, etc. I am more curious than concerned but would not put it past a manufacturer to eliminate a feature due to a 0.1% security concern like the hatch opening while there is a bike in a hitch mounted bike rack. Could it possibly be sophisticated enough to use the rear camera or distance sensor to detect the presence of something and prevent the hatch from opening? Could that be part of the recent software automatic download. Why would that require a special latch? Curious minds want to know.

I haven't seen this mentioned before, so thought I'd add it to the knowledge base...

Hooked our small cargo trailer up yesterday and noticed something that might be of interest to those of you who use the hitch for bikes and similar loads.

After hitching the trailer up (and before connecting the lights), I did a quick test and found what others had seen. As soon as I tried backing up, got the beeps and emergency braking. As expected.

I then plugged in my 7 pin to 4 pin adaptor and tried it again. No beeps, no emergency braking! So those of you who use the hitch for anything other than towing, this can be a solution to the backup alert/braking issue!

Note that is with the (Palisade) wiring harness, and my 7 pin to 4 pin adaptor which has very small LEDs to aid in troubleshooting by testing the vehicle wiring.

P.S. Forgot to mention the trailer lights worked perfect, and the effect of towing a 1500lb trailer was almost unnoticeable (other than some extra bouncing)

I just installed the new latch mechanism. While I can't speak to the mechanical differences, it looks identical to the 'old' mechanism. Only difference were the numbers on both units. FWIW, if you can pick up the part, it's about a 10 minute job.

Do you have the power lift gate ?
If so, is there any difference in functionality (dash button, key FOB button, automatic proximity open/close ?

Did you have to remove any of the interior panels?

I have the power lift gate. The dash and key fob work normally; however, I don't use the auto open/close so I don't know. I had to take off the rear panel, but it's simple and there's a good YouTube video,

(start at 7:30).

It'll be interesting to see what internal mechanics have changed.

just got the call from the dealer that my Hitch Kit parts are in, only problem is they can't get me scheduled for installation until 10/19 at the earliest (baring any cancellations) I asked for more information on the latch replacement (which is part of the Hitch kit) and they didn't know the reasoning for it...

over a month for service?? kia has a huge problem with getting timely service to their customers. that is ridiculous, and i hope it isnt because kias are in the shop for multiple repairs.. i like my car but im afraid of its long term reliability..

ya wth... seems most dealerships have long wait times..

I towed mine for years with a V6 Highlander, Telliuride will have zero problems...

good to know! we just got back from canada, i pulled my alumacraft up there with no issues... hopefully it continues to be a good towing vehicle.

Speaking of Canada, KIA HQ still doesn't have an option for Canadian Tellurides.

This morning I purchased and installed the Hyundai Pallidade 2023 part.

I did not connect the trailer brake harness under the dash but it was included in the above part box.

Relatively easy install, apart from fighting with the Styrofoam insert for the jack.

One thing to note: if you disconnect your battery, as per the instructions, you may have to do a power liftgate reset procedure to get it to close. This only takes 15 seconds to complete, once you have a step ladder setup to reach the outter button.

All I am missing is the KIA part number for the new bumper insert. I think the one my dealer threw in my trunk is for MY 2020-2022.

It's a different shape and size.

Thanks for the info. Just to confirm, the Hyundai S8F67AC800
1) Is the wiring harness which connects to the 6 pin square connector in the jack compartment inside the vehicle
2) It includes a module with other connectors which also gets mounted in the jack compartment.
3) There is a cable which goes from the jack compartment (ostensibly connecting to the module) through the bottom of the compartment and thereby connects (or is part of) to the externally mounted 7-pin trailer connector.
4) There is also another cable which may (unconfirmed) connect behind the fuse cover panel to the left of the steering wheel to allow connection of a brake controller.
Are you in Canada or did you order from a Canadian supplier. I apologize for all the questions but my dealer has abandoned me and I can't seem to find a dealer who can get the S9TOW-POWER Tow Hitch Kit for the USA Tellurides. I have resigned myself to taking an oscillating saw to my bumper cover.

All I am missing is the KIA part number for the new bumper insert. I think the one my dealer threw in my trunk is for MY 2020-2022.

It's a different shape and size.

Probably going to be a long time until KIA offers an individual part of bumper insert for MY 2023-24
