• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I need help here. I was trying to place a grounding wire under the nut and bolt at the front of the engine bay fuse box and when I loosened it, it sparked and the power to the car completely went out. It wouldn't go into accessory mode or crank. Nothing. I went to try and screw it back down and when I hit the metal under the nut, everything came back on like nothing was ever wrong. I drove it around and tested everything and nothing was wrong. After cutting it off, I came back and put it in run mode and the Battery Discharge Warning came on the screen and while the car is in run mode now, the engine, battery, and oil light are all on, but go away when I crank the car up. When I later went to recreate this issue, the car completely died again when going from accessory mode to run mode. This time I went to the fuse box to take the cover back off and before I could, I heard a crackle, and everything came back on again with no problems. Can anybody tell me what is going on and if there is a way for me to fix it without having to go to my dealership to have them fix it?

I would take it to the dealership. always disconnect the battery. You probably shorted something out.

I agree with the Senator on this.
Take it to a dealership.

If you don’t mind me asking, why were you loosening the grounding bolt?

I didn’t know it was the grounding bolt.

Do you think it’s safe to take it up to the dealership? I worry I might blow all kinds of stuff or that the car will completely cut off while I’m driving.

Should be fine, but there’s always a risk.

Let us know what happens. It sounds to me like something is still loose….

Will do. That is what I’m thinking. I just don’t want to mess with it anymore because as of right now, nothing looks to be permanently damaged and I want a professional to look at it and fix it so the problem doesn’t become a permanent and expensive thing.

Maybe disconnect the negative battery wire, then make sure the grounding bolt is properly seated/secured and reconnect the battery, before taking it to the dealer.

Also, if there are signs that you were working in that area (like a clean spot on dusty or dirty plastic) blend the surrounding areas as well.

Don't give the dealership an excuse to blame you, they can be fussy.
