If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... This morning I get an email saying there is a recall for my 2024 KIA Telluride.
Called KIA customer care and they tell me its "engine related" and recalls are being sent out with repairs starting April 15. Curious, I call the dealer and speak with service. He looks up the recall and tells me that the entire engine and several other components need to be replaced. Evidently this affects every Telluride built in Sept - Nov 2023. The root cause is faulty manufacturing parts from suppliers.

After hearing that, I call Kia Customer Care, call them on their bull and say I want a New Telluride versus having all that work done on a brand new 4 month old vehicle with 700 miles. She immediately transferred me to "expedited care" and I was given a case # and will be assigned a customer care rep in 5 days.

I'm sure you all agree having that amount of work done on a brand new vehicle is ridiculous. I'm going to fight this as much as i can. Maybe even lawyer up.
It gets even worse. The dealer cannot even start ordering parts until the Telluride is physically on their property and they will not give me a loaner since it will likely take weeks or even months to get everything in. Kia customer care told me I can pay for a rental and submit a "request" to have that repaid. Nope. I will get it in writing for rental.

This should be in the news soon. I've never heard of something so ridiculous.
Going to start drinking early today!

I spent hours on the phone with KIA Customer Care. The recall effects EVERY telluride built in Sept thru November 2023. Why the hell would FWD or AWD have anything to do with engine valve springs.
YOU dont understand how frustrating thi+0\

I do understand how frustrating it can be. Really, I do.

AWD/FWD don't have anything to do with the recall. But if you are using that link to look up recalls, you have to put either AWD or FWD in the URL.

I also linked right to the recall information to make it easy so you don't have to use the first URL.

Here is the discussion on the forum: Valve Spring Engine Recall

It's early in the process. Here's hoping they get it streamlined and parts are available and all goes much more smoothly than it seems it will right now.

You have no idea. I spent hours on the phone today with service managers, expedited care at Kia care center, etc.
This recall is MASSIVE. You have to physically give the telluride to dealerships before they can order parts. This was right from the service managers mouth. He told me it will be weeks and maybe months to get all that is required. It's more than just the engine. There are several other parts too. No loaner. And if I "decide" to purchase a rental at my expense, I can submit a "request" to have KIA reimburse me. It's not a guarantee at all.
My telluride is less than 4 months old with 700 miles. I am furious. Do you know what this will do to my equity?
It will tank it. I've already spoken with my attorney and he is positive i'm getting a new telluride.

There is much more going on here than KIA is telling us. Why in the world would you change the entire engine and other components for faulty engine valve springs. It's ridiculous.

I feel for you. My 2020 had to have the engine replaced at 38k miles. It was consuming a quart of oil each 1000 miles and sounded like a can of nails rattling. Kia and Hyundai have a history of engine failures not just isolated to the v6. I think the Telluride’s design and ride is good, but the reliability is terrible. they have issues with their suppliers or they go with the cheapest parts available. My replaced engine has 14k miles on it right now but I plan to trade this in for something else in a year. Japanese is still the most reliable. They may have small issues but I have never had any or known anyone that had to have their Toyota/Honda engines replaced with less than 200k miles on them.

I have a 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada (same as trailblazer) with 240,000 miles and purrs like a kitten.
I understand this KIA recall is due to shady parts by suppliers, but they need to TAKE CARE of their customers!
Not offering even a rental car is ridiculous. And they seem to just not care. We shall see once my Lawyer gets involved. You're going to be shocked how much your Telluride has depreciated with a motor swap. That is a HUGE deduction in your equity. Nobody is going to want to buy my Telluride that had to have its engine and several other components replaced at 700 miles.

You know Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is Korean.

Sell you Kia now. And stop stressing.

Excellent business model. Spend $56,000 on a brand new ride, drive it for 3.5 months, put 700 miles on it, then sell it for thousands in loss.
SMART MOVE !!

My car is manufactured between that time and my vehicle is not part of the recall. The NHTSA site says its only 3% of tellurides manufactured in that time frame

I'm sorry to hear about your issue, I can understand your frustration and anger at KIA. I hope it works out for you and you get resolution.

Buying Japanese may sound like a great idea given the perceived better quality but if you go to any forum for Honda, Nissan, Toyota or Mazda, you will see that each manufacturer has issues with quality. Auto manufacturers have farmed out all their parts production, they no longer do it in house because they can squeeze their suppliers to make the parts as inexpensive as possible to keep the cost of the end product low to compete. I speak from experience since I worked for a Tier 1 supplier and have seen the pressure the auto makers put on their suppliers. Suppliers are then forced to cut corners to meet the low cost requirement which in the end affects quality of the end product.

Automakers are hedging their bets that the cheaper parts used in the car will generate more revenue than the cost of warranty claims to fix them when they fail. They don't care about the consumer no matter who you buy from.

I'm not just saying this because I have a Telluride and knock on wood its still been good to me, but more so that given the way the auto industry conducts business, no auto maker is immune to issues.

Hey G, thanks for the post. I purchased my Telluride December 2024. When did you purchase your vehicle? Where can I find the “ manufacture“ date? Thanks, Oliver

Look on the sticker inside the front driver's door. Lots of information there!

Good Morning. Brand new member here. I put a deposit on a 24 P X Pro yesterday. Kia of Port Charlotte in Fl. I wanted an Xline but saw dealer incentive group of X Pro's on lot up to 5,000 off list. Total sticker was $52,768. Now Im finding out about engine recall. I'm beginning to think maybe dealer knew and these cars being discounted. I searched VIN. No recalls at this time for mine. I looked at sticker for dates with no luck. Any advice you all can give?
Thanks, Joe
