I have read your post and I am in a similar but different position. My 2024 Telluride is 5 months old I have 4500 miles on it and I love everything about it! Here is where we differ, after reading the replies in this forum i found the build date for my truck, 10/23/2023 right at the beginning of the recall. So I called my dealer and here is my case. This morning I get an email saying there is a recall for my 2024 KIA Telluride.
Called KIA customer care and they tell me its "engine related" and recalls are being sent out with repairs starting April 15. Curious, I call the dealer and speak with service. He looks up the recall and tells me that the entire engine and several other components need to be replaced. Evidently this affects every Telluride built in Sept - Nov 2023. The root cause is faulty manufacturing parts from suppliers.
After hearing that, I call Kia Customer Care, call them on their bull and say I want a New Telluride versus having all that work done on a brand new 4 month old vehicle with 700 miles. She immediately transferred me to "expedited care" and I was given a case # and will be assigned a customer care rep in 5 days.
I'm sure you all agree having that amount of work done on a brand new vehicle is ridiculous. I'm going to fight this as much as i can. Maybe even lawyer up.
It gets even worse. The dealer cannot even start ordering parts until the Telluride is physically on their property and they will not give me a loaner since it will likely take weeks or even months to get everything in. Kia customer care told me I can pay for a rental and submit a "request" to have that repaid. Nope. I will get it in writing for rental.
This should be in the news soon. I've never heard of something so ridiculous.
Going to start drinking early today!

The dealer said yes they have to order a whole new long block basically the motor but all of your top parts go back on it. It will take about 10 days for the parts to come in. You keep your vehicle until it does and we will schedule you a time for your vehicle and dedicated repair technicians. Then they will get with the rental company set me up and Kia is covering the bill. Now if I want to bring in my truck now and get a rental I have to pay for it and Kia will reimburse me.
So on that note it doesn’t seem outside looking in that Kia is the bad guy in your case the dealer you bought from is.
Now I’m asking advice from this forum. I love my truck and don’t have any problems whatsoever with it. Have been out of town twice no problems. But here lies the issue, with a motor swap I must rely on the expertise of the technician. I have zero issues now I replace the motor now I got check engine lights or power loss or anything. Then what happens to the value of my truck not that I want to sell it cause I don’t I bought it to keep it, when I swap it. My block has been ordered, do I do it, or just leave well enough alone?
Preach!I just tried to get through all of this thread and mis-information here. In a nutshell, it goes like this: Manufacturer warrants the product they manufacture. The dealer (independent party!) sells you product, for as much profit as they can.
You have a vehicle that is covered by a warranty and they're supplying you with a "Long Block" (complete assembly sans the accessories/intake/exhaust) to make good. This folks; is a very good deal (I'm cognizant you're pissed and can't see the light) IMHO. A certain Mfr from Bavaria (I specialized on their cars most of my life) would only be replacing the valve springs and valve seals!
Having spent most of my life on the other side of the desk in the service department, this as a generality; is a good deal. Does it affect your residual value? Why yes, In a positive way. You now own a 50K mile car with a 42K engine. The problem was addressed and made whole.
I'm cognizant you're angry, I'd be also. However, they're making owners whole again and, in a better way that I usually see from my years in this business. Still sux.... but they're doing a half decent job IMHO...

Excellent post. The only thing I would add is to observe that changing an engine is not a huge deal. As an amateur I have rebuilt 3 or 4 street car engines and rebuilt my racing engines a couple of times before I switched to a professional builder with a dyno. I have also pulled and cleaned heads and lapped valves and seats routinely between races. This is not just swapping long blocks and even this work is not a big deal. I would not look forward to the Kia swaps just because of all the street car covers, piping and wiring that is going to have to be removed and replaced, but that is because I am lazy; it is not technically difficult. I would not question at all whether a dealership would have a tech or two who have BTDT successfully. Those guys could probably do the work in half the time it would take a newbie like me. So, to me, all the screaming, weeping, and wailing I read in this thread is just a sign of ignorance. Totally unnecessary.I just tried to get through all of this thread and mis-information here. Like anything else in this world, if you happen lucky enough to have the opportunity...?Excellent post. The only thing I would add is to observe that changing an engine is not a huge deal. march 24, 2024 build. Whew …Look at the door jamb of the one that you are interested in for the date of manufacture. If it is not in the range of the recall, you are fine......
Hmm. Haven't gotten that yet. I'm over 6k miles on mine already. This morning I get an email saying there is a recall for my 2024 KIA Telluride.

Keep us updated. I have 6000K on mine. I will have them give me NEW vs replacement. No way should this happen.Hmm. Haven't gotten that yet. I'm over 6k miles on mine already.
I have no doubt you are going to get a lot of questions and private messages. If you care to do so; a mini detailed account of what happened/how should answer a lot of future questions.Hello all,
Just wanted to update that KIA agreed to buyback my KIA at full price paying all registration, title, license etc fees. Since it was out of service for 30 days getting the engine replaced.
Be very cautious Joe, rather be safe than sorry, be sure they have this issue solved before you lay out the $$! Just my take!Good Morning. Brand new member here. I put a deposit on a 24 P X Pro yesterday. Kia of Port Charlotte in Fl. I wanted an Xline but saw dealer incentive group of X Pro's on lot up to 5,000 off list. Total sticker was $52,768. Now Im finding out about engine recall. I'm beginning to think maybe dealer knew and these cars being discounted. I searched VIN. No recalls at this time for mine. I looked at sticker for dates with no luck. Any advice you all can give?
Thanks, Joe
Mine is in the shop now for the recall and Kia paid for my rental. Very smooth process. The ordered my parts 10 days later it came in dropped it off yesterday. While the repair is being performed, Kia Customer Care is working on whether or not they giving me a replacement new vehicle seeing that my truck is only 4 months old. But what you need to do is check the build date on the sticker on the drivers side door. 10/24 - 12/24 are the recall dates. If it’s before or after your fine. I have not experienced the horror stories of some customers. I do believe it’s a dealership problem. I’ll have my answer on the new vehicle in 2 weeks Kia Customer Care said. Will be posting an update.Be very cautious Joe, rather be safe than sorry, be sure they have this issue solved before you lay out the $$! Just my take!
