• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I used the sunroof on My 2020 Telluride with 88k miles (out of warranty) and it won't close. I tried again to close it when it rained and it moved off the tracks and my local shop is quoting me $5000+ to replace it. Does anyone else have a similar problem or more importantly have a solution to just get it closed and not replaced?

(sad face).... no responses? Does anyone have any advice other than paying $5000?

Try a glass repair place (Safelite?), to get it manually closed, then do not try to open it again (pull the fuse just in case)

Just wanted to resurrect this old thread to mention that I recently had the same problem with my 2021 Telly, which is out of warranty. I wasn't going to pay $5k for a full dealer replacement, and I also wasn't sure if any local shops would be up to the task. I was able to fix it myself after a few hours of headaches and swears. These two resources were the key to understanding how this all works, how it failed, how to fix it, and which parts were required:

This guy's youtube video is amazing:
And this technical service bulletin is also quite detailed: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10239743-0001.pdf
And this part kit for the left-hand side mechanism assembly (different part for right-hand), which I had in one day from the dealer for about $40: 81610 S8000FFF

My repair was more difficult than most because there are some preassembled plastic parts which mount and slide along the inside of the aluminum rail and they don't seem to be replaceable (without the whole sunroof assembly) so I had to get creative and use more force than I would have liked. I also don't know how long my repair will last, so I'm just not going to use the sunroof. Having seen the plastic parts up close, these sunroofs seem pretty brittle and I wouldn't trust their durability at all. Definitely a weakness in this car. Good luck!

Good on you. having come from an industry where one could order real metal parts forever and FIX sunroofs, rather than replace the whole cassette, I purposely located one without a sunroof. Individual sunroof parts are far and few between anymore.
I often offered my customers the; We'll get it closed and then disconnect the motor option.

They're Bic lighters now. "Oh the sunroof is jammed?" "We'll just order you a new cassette and headliner. Come back in two days"
NOT

Yeah, I agree, I'm a little put off by this whole thing and I might also avoid sunroofs, or possibly just make sure my next car is always covered by a warranty. I feel like repairs are getting more exotic and expensive in general (with newer cars).

Taking this on a tangential side-track. One of my clients had many fancy cars that we serviced. His wife's Aston Martin convertible was rear ended at about 5 to 7 MPH at a traffic light. Looked like about $2K to fix?
NOPE, care TOTALED? WTF?

The entire rear structure is carbon fiber. Cracks and "alligators" (micro cracks) extended from the rear bumper support, trunk floor and all the way to the rear bulkhead and the top storage well and is bonded. He was PISSED.

Thanks for posting the video up for reference in case someone is having an issue with their sunroof.
