2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

***End of the line for me***

So the service manager and the dealership's owner took the truck I tested Saturday out this morning. Now it had the same exact noise and vibration at the same speeds as my original, etc. Even my sales guy felt it and said he'd never buy or sell a vehicle with this issue.

The service manager and owner both told me they felt nothing, it drove great and when I mentioned the salesman felt it, the owner said, "he doesn't know anything about cars." So I am a liar as is the salesman??? My wife knows nothing about cars and she felt it in ours. Is she a liar, too?

The owner told me his Kia rep has zero reports of this problem. My dealer has at least three bad trucks in his lot, but the only one he now acknowledges is the one I bought.

I'm furious over the stress and wasted time and energy I've put in to this. Oh, and then to basically be called a liar by the owner and service manager was the icing on the cake.

My wife and I will be going down today to cancel the sale, get our money back and our trade-in.

Run away from Kia if you are having this vibration issue. If you have a solid Telluride, I hope you have years of trouble-free motoring.

Also, don't forget my truck's transfer case was toast after less than 900 miles!

What a shame, because we truly loved this vehicle.

Take care

Dealer is trying to convince us to go in to a front-wheel drive S. From what I've gathered, FWD has been fine so far.

I'm too angry to decide right now. I have such bad taste in my mouth.

They can't get our trade back from the wholesaler or a FWD S for a day or two, so I have time to think.

ColMo - I spoke to Sue in service at your dealer (before I spoke to mine this morning). She was great and informative. I hope they find someone to balance your driveshaft.

I spoke to the driveshaft shop out by me. As long as he has the chucks that will accommodate the ends of a Telluride shaft, he can balance it. He won't know this until he has a Telluride shaft in hand.

Unfortunately, I'll never know.

If it comes down to your dealer having to ship the driveshaft out, the shop's information is:

Mr. Driveshaft
5134A West Hurley Pond Rd.
Wall, NJ 07719
(732)938-4128
Speak with Joe.

They've been around forever and know their stuff.
Thanks for the info and take care. I talk to Sue and they are still working to find a shop to balance the shaft, but now Kia wants them to find a drive shaft out of a AWD Telluride that doesn’t have the problem and switch out to see if it fixes problem. They did check the fluid from transfer case - took two samples - tested both and no metal findings so that is good. So I may be in for a wait. I just want it fixed. We spend 6-8 weeks skiing in Colorado each year and I want a fully functional AWD system.

Sounds like the FWD S is a great option if you are happy with how it drives - perhaps not possible? Sounds like the dealer has bent over backwards to make you happy - a great dealer indeed! Thank you for researching the issue and providing information for others - if there is a widespread issue, then I'm sure Kia will issue a recall. Also sounds like Kia is handling the issues on a case by case basis, but the timeframe is a challenge for many due to lack of parts and a lack of a clear understanding of the issue.

Ah, another unicorn! Lol. Rebel, what is your build date, please? Thank you.

For the data. My SX AWD with build date of 04/22/19 has no noticeable vibrations.

Yes, my wife talked it over. We don't want the hassle of getting the trade back and going through the buying process again. Our Kia dealer gave us a fair price on the trade. Who knows what we'll get elsewhere.

It may take a day or two for them to get a FWD S for us. I hope this is the answer, because other than the vibration, I we love this damn truck!

You will like the S - it has a few upgrades over the LX too. The FWD will also save on gas mileage! Sorry for your ordeal. Not fun!

Well, I'm thankful to have found this message board. I hope my experience and all the info exchanged here between the members will help owners and Kia resolve this problem.

Sorry about your truck. I hope you are very happy with the new one. I’m hoping they figure it out, I’d hate to get rid of it.

I don't know what my build date is but I bought it May 16th. I think mine was from the initial run because of the superbowl ad.

Hi, Just letting others know that this issue is also present in the Hyundai Palisade which shares the same drive train. Below is the thread I had started to let other Palisade owners know of this issue. There have been a couple of others reported in forums. Our dealer had ours and a Limited in stock and both had the same issue reported here and both were confirmed by their head tech by driving with us in the vehicles. They proceeded to sell the Limited to an unsuspecting customer even though their head tech was aware of the vibration issue between 65-75 I am continuing to update the thread below. I believe the release of the Palisade was after that of the Telluride so I think the issue with the Palisade are just starting to trickle in.

Thank you for your post, I am going to keep track of your thread.

While claiming lemon law on affected vehicles is one avenue for those who are frustratingly suffering up to a $40k KIA disappointment.

Though not all AWD owners are encountering this issue, clearly there is a problem. Why hasn't KIA started an investigation internally to rectify the problem? Does KIA use more than one vendor to provide the parts for the affected issue? One would think this should be easily narrowed down to specific vendors or possibly certain shift as the vehicle is assembled on the line.

Since this thread has over 270 posts it seems this is more than an arbitrary problem "for a couple of bad luck Telluride owners." Even dealers have pulled new Tellurides off the truck and found the same problem.

Has any one with this problem reported this to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration? Using every tool to available rectify the problem seems prudent for those who are suffering now and those who will ultimately suffer in the future if KIA isn't called on the issue.

As of today no Telluride or Palisade owners have reported the problem to the NHTSA. Not sure what everyone is waiting for.

... From what I've gathered, FWD has been fine so far.

So I've searched prior threads/replies and see no one claiming the vibration issue on the FWD either.... has anyone heard of an issue on those models?

It is perplexing, by reporting a problem you are not asking the NHTSA to put KIA out of business. Your asking an independent 3rd party entity to identify and verify if problem exists in what is now occurring in the product lines of the Telluride and Palisade.

Why would anyone want other unsuspecting buyers to go through the time, energy and misery of getting one of these arbitrary problematic parts/vehicles?

Oh, I'll definitely be filing a report with NHTSA. My life's been consumed with getting a good vehicle for my wife and updating y'all. Lol.

Update: FWD 'S' will arrive at the dealer this afternoon and we'll check it out this evening.

They were only able to locate one within a 400 mile radius. AWD is the norm. They're getting one more FWD delivered next month and that is it for them and FWD for this year.

I did some searching of multiple dealers myself, and only found the one S they are getting for me from South Jersey.

So, if you love your Telluride but not the vibration and your dealer is willing to get you in a FWD in the next higher trim level, have them start looking now.

I'll post when we're done with the test drive...

Who's to say this isn't an issue with most of these? Guess I should have listened to my father. He always said to never buy a new model the first year it's released...

Update... I was just told that after the Tec. looked it over they decided to get KIA engineering involved. He said he should know by tomorrow afternoon when they will be coming. I live about 40min north of where they build the Telluride so hopefully this won’t take long.

Finally! That close to the plant... they should be sending a team! Took them long enough...
