• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I have seen an entry for HD Radio Data on the UVO 10.25 inch screen in some of the videos. What data is available?

By broadcasting digitally over traditional radio waves, a single frequency is now capable of delivering up to four stations of content in crystal clear sound. All you do is tune in to your favorite station and your HD Radio receiver will automatically lock in to the HD1 signal for that station. One notch over on the dial and you’re listening to entirely new content on the HD2 station. Additionally the digital signal provides on-screen information such as: album art, song info, traffic and weather.

What they don’t tell you though is that if the stations you like to listen to don’t broadcast in HD that you don’t get any of these features. It also could be that there are no HD stations near you and you may not get to use any of these features at all...
Also if you are listening to SXM, what happens then? No weather at All? Or can you receive this data without being on a HD station? I can’t find out this info anywhere...

Enlighten me if I’m wrong....

I called Kia on this. The radio has to be within range of an HD fm signal that is ALSO broadcasting the weather and other info. Doesn’t matter what you are listening to. I live in an area with no stations broadcasting this data, but I saw it work on the way home from picking it up as we drive through St Louis.

We all have phones now with weather apps, I don’t see this as an benefit. Or if you’re using google/apple maps there is weather related delay it shows on your maps as an delay.

Except it’s a very visible feature on the display that may work on a “spotty” basis... New vehicle owners don’t look to kindly on infotainment features that are part time performers...This possibly needed a little more forethought KIA.....

Is there a way to "activate" or deactivate" HD signal? I think my transmitter is faulty or something. I had great HD signal for radio and weather widget after the initial infotainment update was done and now nada for a few weeks. It's making me nuts. Ive tried soft reset several times still nothing. I really think there is something with the UVO network that is wonky but I can't prove it. Any other things I can check or test?

I sometimes get weather information when I am in range of two providing areas near me, sometimes blocked by the hills I believe as one is only 25 miles away. Just went to the dealership and had an oil change and also received 3 recall updates. One, an update gives a large temperature reading when no weather information is being received in that right hand space!

Its very overrated data. Its nothing to write home about. For those of you who do live near stations that broadcast in HD your missing out. Most of the stations in the Twin Cities have HD stations and they are commercial free and lots of different styles and types of music.

It works strange to me. I live in Ottawa. There are HD stations here but I dont get the weather data. If I go to Montreal, it works great there, infact when I travel back to Ottawa it then displays the Ottawa weather and works well. My problem is the next time I start the car at home it no longer displays the weather. It only ever displays it in Montreal or Toronto and then displays it in Ottawa when I return home but once I shut off the Telluride after the trip back it doesn't display it anymore the next time I start it up again. Very strange.

I have the same issue in Augusta Georgia.

New software update will probably help out with some of this as I believe they are offloading some of the the features that depend on HD data to UVO functionality.

You are correct.... sort of. I can only attest to the new US-based map update, not the Canadian version. For the US, weather is now a function of UVO, No more reliance on HD Radio. Weather data is provided by Foreca (Foreca - Wikipedia) through the UVO server and is synched w/GPS. While under Nav guidance, weather will be displayed for both your current location (as you travel) and destination. Nice touch. Two thumbs up on the new US map update.

Are there any Canadian forum members who've purchased the Canadian version? Would be interested to understand some of the detailed differences.

Enjoy the ride!

I did the update this morning and it is very easy. Very happy they found another weather provider that is not HD radio. Update also includes a new relaxation sound app that has Rainforest, etc. it’s a little weird but I like it.

In our area I am presented with three cities to select from and none of them are less than 40 miles from where we live. So, it appears that there are no local HD stations transmitting weather data... and that the software on this car still uses HD radio data only.

We took delivery of our 2021 EX Premium Telluride on August 19, 2020. It was manufactured August 7, 2020 and delivered to the dealer on August 17. I would expect that either at the time it was built or during dealer prep that everything would have been update prior to delivering the car to us. I live in South Carolina (i.e., this is a US spec vehicle). I have activated UVO Link.

I could not find any resources that allowed me to upgade the infotainment center myself. This site (Navigation Updater | Official Kia Motors Navigation Update Website - been "available soon" since at least April 2020!) is not yet active and this site (http://www.kia.com/SoftwareUpgrade) is no longer available. The MnSOFT site (Kia Mapcare | Customer Login) did not provide a selection for a 2021 Telluride (only 2021 selection was for a Seltos) and selecting 2020 just said that there were no software updates available for the Telluride.

The current software versions are:
Model: ONAS.S5BMC.US
Software Version: ON.USA.S5W_M.V003.002.190813
Firmware Version: ON.USA.292.190613.MICOM.D
Navigation App Version: STD5W.NAM.KMC.190603.88dad734
Map Version: NAM.12.47.44.510.205.3

These all look to be 2019 versions (190813, 190613, 190603) if I'm interpreting Kia's naming convention right.

I took the car to a Kia dealer yesterday and they plugged the car in and reported that I have the latest software/firmware.

We love the car... but can't believe that we can't get more local information without plugging in our phones!

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Mike

You are correct. Apparently, software version 14 will resolve the HD weather issue - but the release was pulled from Mapnsoft. I would wait for version 14.5 to be released soon and then see what functionality that adds and how it uses weather. A few folks who were able to update to v14 before it was pulled discussed the changes above - see June 25 post from @WhiteSX . So, hang in there. The HD weather was an oversight on Kia's part - they were probably trying to find a free way to get weather info, rather than a subscription service via cellular network. I think the new update uses the cellular network via UVO.
